Hi!
Puddles has been doing a behaviour which involves him violently arching his neck and stretching it a few times before flapping his wings and properly stretching it. It's kind of like if we pushed our heads and necks forwards whilst keeping our shoulders still. Should I be worried?
He does...
Thank you so much @happy duck!
I'll try snap some more photos!
She hasn't laid for a few days so I'm keeping an eye on her - I'm scared she's egg-bound. I really do over analyse everything and worry too much to be fair.
I moved the eggs to the house two nights ago but she just keeps pooping on...
Hello! It's been a long time since I have posted on here!
Jemima has started laying!
She has started to lay what we think is the start of a nest! Four eggs there at the moment! I know the eggs are dormant until the nest is ready and there's enough eggs, so I'm leaving it for now. She's decided...
Her eye has cleared up, she's not shutting it anymore.
Just let her have a bath and let her submerge her head completely under the water for two days, and it's cleared up.
Thanks for the help. :)
May be hard as it's the Christmas Eve and Day, but I'll take her if it's not cleared up by tomorrow.
It looks brighter and less cloudy, she's had a bath, but she still closes it on and off.
Hi! Happy Christmas everyone! Hope you all enjoy the holidays and have a great new Year!
Puddles and Jemima are doing fab! Here are some photos of them now!
Got a biting problem with Puddles - he bites me all the time when I hold him, but with some proper care and attention and telling off I...
Hello! Sorry for the absence!
Both are doing great, I actually caught them mating today! Is this normal because it's Winter!
He doesn't chew that spot excessively but he does preen it a lot.
The skin looks a tad red and sore, probably from his excessive preening on that spot in particular...
Happy 1st of December everyone!
A long overdue update on Puddles and Jemima;
Puddles still has wet-feather, which is very hard to treat with the Winter season as it is often damp and raining here in the Winter. I really hope it clears up with his next moult which is due in the Spring I...
Happy Wednesday everyone!
So unfortunately... the speculations were confirmed as I checked the wings today.
Both have been pinioned.
I have attatched photos of their wings.
Puddles has some really "off" feathers on the back of his neck. Checked for parasites but there are none. They feel...
That's so cruel... cutting part of their wings off....
The woman who I got them from said they have not been clipped... so they can fly... but I am fully convinced that BOTH the ducks have had something done to their wings... both have one wing shorter than the other... and CAN'T fly.
He eats...
3°C right now, with spots of rain. But temperatures are on average ranging from 6-8°C at the moment.
He has access to his house at all times, and I dry him if he's soaked.
I give them 1 1/2 teaspoons of this in 10 litres of water because the measurements were not fully accurate. They do like to bathe in it though, but I'm scared of giving them a smaller drinking bowl because they empty it in seconds and the vitamin dilution may not be safe enough.
I'd...
I've not noticed anything off about his sleep. He just... lays like a duck I suppose.
He's pretty stable when moving around, it's just when he's wet and preening himself that he gets super wobbly. He feeds fine and can run and walk perfectly well.
I have noticed that one of his wings has less...
He lays with his legs underneath him, flat on the ground and usually has his beak tucked into his back. The female sleeps on her side though, which is weird, but she's completely healthy as far as I'm aware!
Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it. It's not nice to watch.
Hello all!
Please watch the video I have provided of Puddles.
I have moved them outside and they have a house with hay (straw soon to be added) and a small pen with a water bowl for drinking from which they can also stand in. The water is changed daily.
Diet consists of corn and waterfowl...
Hello!
A small update.
I've now moved the ducks outside! They have a small pen and a large duck house that they are loving. :)
Every morning it's corn and waterfowl pellets for breakfast, and then a free roam of the garden whilst being supervised. They are locked in every night.
Puddles...
Jemima, (female) keeps chasing, charging into (like almost mounting, but using her entire body to bash into him) and pecking Puddles (male). They both have water, plenty of space and food. I'm not sure why she is doing this, because when they are separated she quacks the house down because she...
