I agree. If you can't find any of them, they didn't freeze to death, and the rooster didn't kill them. There'd be carcasses if either of those happened. A rooster usually is protective of a hen and chicks. At least mine have been.

I'd leave them with the mama. She'll keep them warm, make sure they have food and water and teach them how to be chickens. I've done it both ways, and broody-raised chicks just seem to do better. Especially if you can integrate them in with the flock right away. Mama will protect them, they'll...
