The Joys of Owning Imported Orpingtons

I'm not 100% sure. I've seen birds similar from other people that said the chicks had a stripe on it's down as a chick. Most Jubilees tend to be solid yellow chicks. I believe the stripe might be indicative of being crossed to Speckled Sussex or something similar which might cause odd genes...

piglett - when that bird was a chick, was her down solid yellow or did it have a chipmunk stripe?

Just because he has red/orange leaking through does not necessarily mean he is crossed with Jubilee. Do you know this to be a fact? It could be, but pure blacks as well as blues and other colors occasionally mature to have leakage in the hackle/saddle area. They are usually culled or kept as...

Mated to blue you'll get some mauve (pullets only.) Mated to black you'll get males that are black but rec carrying chocolate and females that are pure chocolate. Not 100% sure about splash so I'd hate to say

Yinepu: It's possible the seller got eggs mixed up. It's also possible that the father is split to chocolate and the mother is pure black.... If that is the case - then those 2 chocolate chicks you have are both female. However, I have hatched A LOT of chocolate Orpingtons the past couple...

Majority spangle males having red leakage. (Automatic cull) Most females looking pure spangle but carrying the Jubilee gene. When bred back to a pure spangle male you'll hatch some Jubilee chicks. Someone correct me if im wrong, but that's my understanding.

No, he is actually unrelated. This is a product of my original import chocolate rooster over chocolate hens. That black boy was hatched in 2012. I bet he is stunning now, need to get Alton to send me some pictures

This beautiful chocolate boy belongs to Sylvia Bland. She got him as a chick from me and has done an excellent job raising him and his siblings. LOVE the look of this boy, and he is only 6-7 months old. Can't wait to see him again after he matures

Wow, look at how much they have grown. They look great! Yes shouldn't be too much longer on eggs. I would say another 4 weeks just based on the looks of some of the pullets I have from the same hatching.
