Thank you, Missbecky, for identifying our hen! She definitely fits that description! Now that she has feathers, I see how beautiful they are, with those gold streaks in the center!
She looks so much better now, I can't believe she's the same bird! She's almost 100% now and has no noticeable bald patches. She has earned the name Baldy, though, lol!
She's starting to look much better! Luckily, once through quarantine, none of my ladies started picking on her, and we don't own any roosters. She lays huge eggs, albeit infrequently.
Thank you, Krista! Theoldchick, there's patches of skin where there's no feathers coming in. Do you think that's where other birds plucked them out? With time, maybe they'll grow in? The previous owner said he got her with a bald patch on her neck. He thought, with the way she is now, that she...
Mine laid an egg today! I can't believe it. Maybe she's not dying afterall. Huh. I hear you about the molt being embarrassing! This poor hen looks awful! I'll give it a month and see how she looks then.
The previous owner did say he'd seen her picked on. I am adding protein and she is warm. I'll do the worming and treatments recommended, thanks! Any guesses to her breed? Theoldchick, what beautiful Australorps! Thanks for the pic.
Hi,
We have this hen in quarantine. She was given to us free. Anyone know what breed she is? Also, she's in terrible condition, unless she's a molting Turken? I don't see mites or lice and she's healthy enough that she lays an egg almost every day (or so we're told). Any help is welcome!
