Oh, also switched to a high-quality pelleted food vs. component-based food a couple days ago so it won't happen again. I do think she was seed sorting.
Looks like, in the end, it was the same problem as with the medicated feed when she was a baby: low thiamin. I've had her on B complex for about a week now, and she's 90% better. The E and Selenium seemed to help, but it may have been coincidental.
Improved this morning. Still backwards walking, a slightly wetter sounding sneeze, but much more forward momentum and upright walking too. I think we're on the right track. I'll update if anything changes, it might be a few days.
Thanks all!
Well she had a very successful free range with her flock. Continued optimism. She's starting to eat oyster and eggshell too. I really wonder if the egg factory coming online may be playing a role here.
Well, just like yesterday, after a bit of treatment, the backwards walking displayed on waking is gone. I'll try to catch it tomorrow morning and continue doing what I'm doing as it definitely seems to help at least short term. Thank you all very much!!
Oh god no - maybe 3 pounds. The label just said "Give chickens 1-3cc per day during times of stress or competition." Yikes! I'll stop giving her so much!
On the plus side, she hasn't been _that_ badly overdosed. She got 2 CC yesterday and 2 today. So I'll just not give her anymore until...
I'm giving her 400IU human vitamin E on 2 tsp of tuna in addition to the Poultry Cell. She's getting 3 CC (ml) of Poultry Cell a day - does she need more B?
I'll catch a video in a bit when I go out to check on her.
Edit: I've been thinking about just pilling her the vitamin E at bedtime...
That is a _great_ idea! And lets me save my (rather significant) investment!
Her poo other than the one episode of diarrhea, looks totally normal. This morning, she's back to the weirdness. I got her tuna and Poultry Cell and Vit E in her, let's see how she feels in a couple of hours. No...
No, I don't think so. It's just odd that she did this for a few days as a few day old chick and here we are again. I hope there's nothing wrong with her internally, but she has never seemed unhealthy at all. She doesn't look in any way unhealthy now even.
Heatstroke seems more likely. There's never been any ND here.
At any rate, my girl seems to improve greatly for a few hours every time I give her Poultry Cell. So I'm going to keep doing that with the tuna (which she gobbles up with great gusto!) and with the vitamin E. I've got 20 bags of...
I've never even seen a hatchery that offers ND vaccination. So far, with every dose she seems to get a little better. She hasn't walked backward after the first dose of Poultry Cell and scrambled egg, and she's starting to pick her head up a bit more vs. keeping it low to the ground. I'll...
I was considering switching for this reason. She could very well be seed sorting. I took a 400 IU vitamin E tablet and put it on 2 tsp of tuna fish and that went into the chicken with no issue. After the dosage this morning, I haven't seen her walk backwards in a couple of hours now. So I'm...
They forage a lot and get Scratch and Peck organic, non-gmo chicken feed. I gave her some Poultry Cell which has B vits, Selenium, E, and minerals. I'll give her some tuna before bedtime.
She was fine last night, when I got up this morning, I noticed she didn't want to come off the roost. To get on and off the roost requires a series of hops, and every time she'd hop from one level to the next, she'd stick her butt in the air, head down, and walk backward a few steps before...
