They say breed identification is a service they don’t provide. :idunno Who knows if they’ll even respond, but I can try.
I’d say she’s just an olive egger.
Meyer’s doesn’t carry any gamefowl in the standard or bantam size. She’s about the size of the leghorn, but she was pretty big as a chick. She’s real flighty like a leghorn too
Her legs look green to me with yellow skin. You got me really excited there for a second, lol. Maybe she’s an olive egger that had a penedesenca as a parent?
@TheOddOneOut
She’s 15 weeks old, so laying eggs is still a little ways off. And from what I can remember, the extra notch on her comb is near that back but I can’t remember if it actually looks like the split carnation combs have or if it’s just an extra bit, you know?
You know? She does have an extra looking notch at the back of her comb. She has a salmon colored breast, though. I didn’t think partridge penedesencas have that as their coloration. I’ll be letting everyone out in a bit, so I’ll try to get a picture then.
I was hoping I was able to capture her when I had my phone out taking pictures of everyone trying to eat the lens earlier today, but this is the best I got of her. Jasper was the main focus lol
Misty definitely looks like some kind of legbar or legbar mix ( probably the latter, an olive egger from the legbar breeding program Meyer has ). She’s getting the salmon colored chest. Hopefully this means she’ll have a crest.
I don’t know, none of the pictures in the reviews of the lakeshore eggers look like her. They’re all more of a light brown or yellowish cream. She seems too dark, but I guess we’ll know for sure if she gets a crest.
Okay, mystery chick is 3 weeks old today and I still have no idea what she is. I am, however, thinking she’s definitely a cross? Maybe a legbar cross? Who knows, but I’m naming her Misty.
Yeah, doesn’t look white right now at all. It’s more of a greyish yellow, but I know their leg color can change as they get older. I don’t know, I think it’s just a big waiting game at this point. She should be making it clearer in the next few weeks.
See, Meyer doesn’t sell a silver duckwing bantam and I grabbed her out of the standard size chick bin. She really looks like a silver grey dorking to me...minus the extra toe.
Could be...or still an olive egger. I’m pretty sure one of Meyer’s breeding programs for their olive eggers is a welsummer x cream legbar, but I’m not sure. I think they mentioned they have 3 different ones, but she still seems a little light even for that.
I know, she’s adorable! I was hoping she was a dorking, but she doesn’t have the extra toe. I tried comparing her to the pictures people posted in the reviews for their olive eggers and EEs but I still couldn’t find any matches.
That’s why she’s stumping me so much. I’ll definitely update when...
I picked this out of the bin at Meyer Hatchery and I’m a bit stumped on its breed. I went through all the breeds they sell and none of the chick pictures quite match with mine. Is it a clean faced EE? One of their olive eggers? I’m just confused that it has a single comb since pea combs are...
