I think I'm about to give up on these eggs...
Its been a week since they've been in the bator. Probably two weeks since the hen began setting.
I've seen absolutely no progress so far when I candle them. I think they may even be a little more liquidy than before and the air cells are getting...
I just wish I knew if they were alive in there or not. When would they start to smell if they are dead? What would I see if I candle them and they are dead? Will it start to look different? Will the air cell get bigger/smaller?
I think I've got the temp in the incubator regulated finally, its holding steady. I'm thinkin of putting a heat sink in there too. I have a Little Giant still air bator and they have a tendency to fluctuate.
I'm thinking I'll candle the eggs next week. If they aren't developing, what will I...
My little OEGB eggs don't really have a "big end"? They are kind of like little footballs?
I'm having some temperature fluctuations in my bator. I was so eager to get them in there, that I didn't give it enough time to mantain a steady temp. The temp has only fluctuated a few degrees, so...
Okay, I'm somewhat relieved but still a little worried. I guess only time will tell now.
When I candled them very quickly, and didn't really take the time to look real close I saw what was on this page in the left had column just underneathe the photo of the store bought egg...
Okay, the one that sounded watery had some very visible cracks in it and no air sac at all, so I took that one outside and cracked it open. It wasn't fertile at all. The rest have visible air sacs, but that is all I can see.
This hen was teeny tiny, but I'm pretty sure that the big roosters...
I wish they were giggling. They're just jiggling. That's funny though, I just realized my type-o, I need the laugh. Giggling chicks, that is funny to imagine! Or giggling eggs for that matter!
I did candle them and tried to compare them to some photos of eggs, and I can't tell if they're...
Thanks. Three jiggle and three do not, one egg really jiggles, like its watery. I don't know what to think? I don't have a maglite to candle them right now.
She was a really tiny hen, the eggs at the edge of the nest probably didn't stay as warm as the ones directly under her.
I lost my OEGB to a fox last night. She was setting on her eggs about a week. They still giggle when I shake them. They've been cold about 18 hours or so. Will they still hatch if I put them in the incubator?
I'm so upset about losing this little girl, I would love to be able to hatch her eggs.
