All the pullets are laying, 5 White Leghorns and 6 ISA Browns. 10 of the 11 laid, so one of the Browns took the day off. I've included our largest egg to date that came on 12/3 and we have not cracked it yet, but expect at least a double yolk...
Sure join along. I am just going to go to weekly/monthly measurements. I do date my eggs every day just so I can compare sizes in the egg cartoons for myself.
I've measured store bought eggs and compared them to mine. Now as I've measured over the past few weeks, I've noticed a decline in growth rate, but still a slight change in size to my largest egg. So my 2 months to reach X-Large really is a "hunch" and not laid in a mathematical equation...
I need to know if there is any interest in me continuing this thread, as I am considering going to weekly or just stopping it.
Finding that after 2 weeks the eggs hit the classification of "Large" and thinking that "Extra Large" will take 2 months. Btw, all 5 of my Leghorns are now laying as...

Looks like the Browns are doing really good in size development and the brown egg with white speckles is now almost completely brown. Just for comparison, a grocery store Large egg is 55.5 x 42.8 (average of 12 eggs we still had in the refrigerator). I'll have to be that werid-o in the grocery...
@melissamc that was my interest. I've seen where people weigh the eggs and that's interesting too, but size development was my curiosity as I hadn't seen it done on the forums before.
So I bought the micrometer and had been holding all the eggs until today and got a surprise, the ISA Browns are laying
So let me give the sizes of all the eggs we've gotten so far...
So today, someone took a day off. I suspect it was pullet A (first to lay) as the size of the eggs are not close to the biggest and are very similar to the others I got.
I am going to have to figure out a better way to take pictures as the camera angle is causing me to show poor egg sizes...
Interestingly enough, my wife was informing me of what time she believes they are laying and that three of the pullets are laying the egg within a millimeter of the other eggs and not covering them (both yesterday and today) and that one pullet is laying sometime in the late afternoon or early...
In this first picture I have laid them out in order of size and with the assumption that since there is a change in size each day that we can assume the largest egg each day will be that of the first pullet to lay on 10/13, the two eggs that are of similar size would be that of the 2 pullets...
Yesterday I was in a discussion on a thread about eggs sizes and how long it takes them to get bigger. @Ridgerunner suggested that I might want to create a thread about how the eggs grew in size over time. So, pictures on a little measuring board with dates it is.
Backstory on the pullets...
