You can get a decent digital caliper for about $20-30.Guess I'm going to plunk down down a few $$ on a micrometer at Harbor Freight.
Or you could just weigh them

My wife has nicknames for them, to me they're a resource that are fun to watch.Pullet A? Come on. They need nifty names to go with their eggs!

We first got chickens 2.5 years ago (AmberLinks, ISA Browns, Golden Comets, Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rocks and Black Australorps). All laid big eggs. This spring, we ordered chicks since our older girls had slowed laying, but we ordered Cream Legbars, Sicilian Buttercups, True Green Whitings, Buff Orpingtons, and Silver Laced Wyandottes. Every one of the new pullets lays a very small egg even though they were advertised as laying large eggs. The first egg was only about 31 grams, as compared to the 77 gram whoppers we get from our older hens. I have noticed the eggs getting a little bigger, but I'm still curious as to how long that will take...
