Good luck to all in the hurricane's path!
In other news: I finally had some quail hatch. Here's the first one, hatched about noon yesterday. He/she now has 2 friends who hatched 12 hours later. The little tyke was peeping so sadly until it saw the other 2 hatchers (so lonely by itself in...
Yeah, that would suck.
On other notes, although my quail eggs are overdue I think they're ready to start breaking through. It's day 19 for them, so I took them out to float test and make sure they're good. All looked ok, & I even heard some tapping as I held them up to my ear. Put them back in...
Some grocery stores sell fertile eggs. I have 10 from Trader Joe's in the bator on day 18 this afternoon. so far, 10/12 are growing. We'll see what happens with mine in a few days. (At least that's what I assume by whole foods eggs).
Opinions on something:
I have both quail and chicken eggs in the same incubator (only have 1). The quail eggs are due for lockdown on Sat, but the chicken egg, set the same day, are not due for lockdown until after the quail eggs are supposed to hatch (day 17). Will they be ok in the same...
Feeling a bit better thanks. Eggs are doing fantastic. Day 6 for quail and chickens, and I have lots of dark, full quail eggs and little heartbeats in 11/12 Trader Joe eggs. Mindbogglingly, the refrigerated eggs are growing!
Thank heavens for x10 controllers and fathers who know how to program them. My incubator is hooked up to 1, and we got it hooked up just before I got really really sick. It's like a good thing it's automatically controlling the heat because the little things would have baked or frozen by now...
so do I but I still have skunks. So far, it hasn't gotten I to the back yard. My chihuahua barking through the fence scares it off.
Pasty butt experience anyone? I've heard yogurt mixed with food helps
Maybe THAT's what happened to my first run of eggs. There was an oozer in there. I pulled it out when I noticed, but it may have damaged the others by then.
Here goes try #2. Got some quail eggs to practice on from Sill today (somebody more savvy tell me how to tag a person on this forum please). I am trying the chicken eggs just for kicks. They are fertile eggs from the store. I figured it can't be any worse than the first try (it may not be...
At least you got one to hatch. I think my first try was a bust. I don't want to use shipped eggs again for a while.
I am not going to give up.. I'm adding an automatic egg turner and (thanks to my genius Dad) computer controlled temperatures. I am hoping, with those two changes and not...
I've heard of people using those foam coolers from the grocery store. Search for it in the forums, you'll find someone who has done it I'm sure.
My aunt also complained about her guineas being bad mothers and leaving the nest 2-3 days before hatching.
