I raised 25 of them. The chick starter was 20% protein. I used a lot of scratch, also (cracked corn, whole oats, wild bird seed) and they were allowed to run around the farm all day. I dont use chicken tractors, I just let them ransack the whole barn.
I do too. Ill probably do some more this year, I hope these will last me to this fall. I am just amazed at the size of the breasts on these things. Im all about white meat, so these birds are perfect for me. Im taking a little break, I have one more to do today. I did 6 today. Very quick...
Im putting some more in the freezer today. The ones I did last week weighed out at 3#2oz (2 breasts) and 2#8oz (4 quarters). The ones Ive done so far today (7 days later) are 3#10oz (2 breasts) and 2#11oz. pounds (4 quarters).
Just for fun, Ive tried to figure out the cost. Figures are only approximate, since I had lots of other chicks eating the same food, tho they didnt eat near what the CX did. I bought 400 pounds of unmedicated chick starter for them. I still have about 40 pounds left, so that will probably...
Well, first 2 victims present and accounted for. Im not as good as so many others here in keeping records. I grabbed 2 of them last night, weighed them...around 5.5 pounds each. Put them in a dog crate for the night. This morning I went out, hung them up, snipped their throats....they sure...
Ill take some more pictures of the barn WHEN IT WARMS UP. Brr. Now realize that I had an open barn built because I live in Florida. Ill also weigh some of these before the weekend. I think I will start the biggest ones this weekend.
