I'm my goodness what an adventure! Naughty little Zachary at it again - what a character already
I am nervous about this happening as they like to run and flap especially when the wind blows! Are you considering clipping their wings?
Yes! I'm pretty sure I have 2 girls and a boy! So...
Haha my son has just turned two. He loves his "baby ducks" and although mostly very good with them he likes to follow them around. Rebeccah (our duck) gets a bit protective and gives him a little nibble to warn him she's not happy - which makes my son roar with laughter and does it all the more...
Does anyone know if Welsh harlequins fly and whether I will need to clip their wings? I've read they don't but mine like a good old run up the garden whilst they flap! Worried they will take off!
Hello - a little update from us here in the UK. My babies are now 4 weeks old. The 2 that we thought were girls have started with their whoopie cushion sounds and not-so-little-anymore Douglas (who I was sure was a boy) is still peeping / not showing a real change in vocal range. So I think we...
That's funny, because Douglas, who I am pretty sure is a boy is much calmer than the other two! May just be a coincedence but something that's very noticeable with my 3. Will update you soon! X
Yeah, it's the same with human ultrasounds. I hear that when they get the wrong gender it tends to be with girls. So if you're told you're having a boy, then it's a boy, but if your told it's a girl there's a small possibly it could be a boy that's "shy". I guess any method that try's to predict...
Lovely pictures! Yes I've also read only 90% accurate - naughty little Zachary. He looks just like my two "girls" when they first hatched. I've called mine Jemima and rebeccah after the 2 ducks in Beatrix potters story of Jemima puddle duck. Although I realise I may well have a Jeremy and...
Lol ;)
Oh what lovely pictures. The are beautiful. Am so shocked at how quickly they change from being yellow little fluff balls in only 4 weeks. It's amazing. I can't wait to get mine outside with a bit more space and freedom though, yours look very happy. Thanks for sharing. X
Yes that's what I would have said. The last pic is the boy. But I'm not expert, just what I've read. This is my first hatch. They look a little diff to mine colouring wise but it could be lighting etc. I hatched mine from postal eggs and often joked that they might not have even been ducks for...

Try to find a pic of them the first day or two after hatch and post it so we can see? :)
My babies are now 3-4 and there bills have changed, the ones that we're lighter (suspected female) have turned darker like the male. X
Fingers crossed for 2 girls as I understand it's best to have a ratio of more girls than boys. I don't think I could go through hatching again. Quite anxiety provoking ;)
Hahaha this made me laugh out loud! Yes I read about the bill colour. This pic is them on the day after hatching. I agree I can def tell one is a drake (in the middle) and the one to the left is a duck. I did think the one on the left was a duck on the day she hatched but her bill isn't as light...
I've just hatched 3 Welsh harlequin ducklings! They are so beautiful! I chose them because of all the good things I read both in terms of temperament and egg laying, although I can't be sure of sex yet. Mine are just pets for our back garden. X
