Hi All, I have 3 chickens I'd like to play Roo or Hen with. Please share your thoughts. All are older than 10 weeks. Brown is supposed to be an ameracauna, grey-black one is English Orpington- and a silkie. Ameracauna and English Orp have testy attitudes and sound they they are attempting...
Sorry about your loss. I'm in Jacksonville and its been 100 here too. I've been freezing big hunks of watermelon and putting them out in the am before I head to work. They stay cool awhile and the girls nibble or slurp the juice throughout the day. They pick it clean by dinner time.
Honestly, if the neighbors call about the rooster crows.... but not about the Heavy metal growling garage band that plays constantly well into the night, or about the hip hop and heavy metal music garage parties my neighbors have between 7pm and 4am even on weeknights.. We are gonna have to have...
No, we can't have roos. I dont think my neighbors would have a problem, but a second roo in the neighnorhood may test their patience. There's someone with a rooster nearby and he crows near constantly, so I'm afraid of loosing my permissions due to complaints regarding their rooster.
Agreed. My husband is upset and is hanging on for no crowing. I at least want to get a few chicks out of him if it's a roo before he heads for sale.. some pay back for time, feed, and sore ankles!!!
I have a splash orpington, acts the same way. Staring to get red faced and comb looks different than other orpingtons I've had.Also pecks my ankles. Really poor feather development too, so I'm having a tough time with sexing mine too. She is the one in the lower right corner. I'd love to see...
@AlHawkCalcium deficiency, maybe, but I imagine that would be accompanied by soft shell eggs. I think its more likely that you have someone who has learned to like eating egg and just ate the shell as an extra treat. Collect your eggs sooner if you can. Chicken Chick has a great article to help...
What a shame. My son would be devastated as he's litterally counting down the days til he is 5 and can join 4H to share his chickens with the world. Getting chicks and raising them has been a total game changer as far as his behaviors and verbalization. He was in behavior therapy and nearly...
Are they too hot? Make them drink water with electrolytes - I've watered down toddler pedialite and had my chicks drink that for a day or two when they had diarrhea and I didnt have the offical electrolytes for poultry mix. Also keep them away from any other poultry you may have. Keep food...
I have a chick sized crocheted chick and a plush marshmellow Peeps chick in there. Scared she will get stuck and suffocate if I put a big plush which may fall. My next idea is a hamster igloo house, but will she ever come out?? Also debating a stuffed tube sock sewn as a donut. Tried adjusting...
Hi everyone! Ended up with a precious silkie baby (we call her CiCi) whos age is uncertain but well under a month old. She cries and cries- which breaks my heart. Any suggestions as I can't constantly hold her and the other chicks are annoyed. Wish there was a local 'rent a broody'. PS husband...
@Wyandotte Blue
We've lost our share of pullets in two seperate dog attacks from my Jack Russell. I never would have thought the whole family would have been in tears, but we were. Time will heal the sorrow. Hope you find strength to try again.
Congrats on your new addition! Also appreciate all the kind words left regarding T.S. Colin. We faired ok. Lots of rain. The new coop and run held up very well, just a few leaks which we have now fixed. I brought in the girls as weather was expected to get worse - in their typical teenage girl...
