I've seen the occasional goldfinch in the yard. I know I'll see more in Sept when they come for weed seeds. I let native weeds and wildflowers grow in parts of the yard for birds and pollinators. Sadly not a single Monarch yet again this year. Found a Cardinal's nest in an apple tree out front...

We found a cardinal's nest in an apple tree the other day. Only noticed it when mom and dad were trying to coax the young one out of the nest. Unfortunately a coon killed the 4 robin babies just before they were ready to leave the nest. We aren't coon fans here at all.

Here are the 2 varieties of grosbeaks I have seen around here. I haven't seen an evening grosbeak in over 30 years. Rose breasted male female Evening pair Once, 2 years ago, I had a female black headed grosbeak at our sunflower feeder. Not sure how she got blown up this way.

The chickens aren't sticking their heads out for the worms? Have you found any nests? I'm sure we have others. The one we are watching happens to be the most interesting one in a while because it's in a location where we can easily peek in to see what's happening. They aren't always so easy!

They are eating worms and caterpillars here. We have no mulberries and the blueberries are a long way off. Even longer if the chilly weather continues. (I'm hoping it does - I HATE hot weather!)

Our baby robins are growing quickly. They are starting to overflow their nest! It won't be long before they are out and about. I'll have to get a picture of them before they leave.

The picture you posted was a catbird. You want some bunnies and deer for home? Please come and take some! We have no shortage of turkeys either. Heck my parents are just north of Boston and they have residential turkeys. Two hens were perched on their deck eating out of the tube feeders last week.

Catbirds have that grey cap and are darker than mockingbirds. Mockingbirds are slightly larger and have longer tails Catbirds stick to shrubbery and mockingbirds don't care who sees them.

They are back. Our resident one has visited the hanging baskets and lilacs. We have a place in Maine too. One of our neighbors there has hummingbird feeders. They also have a male hummer they named Caesar. Even though there's more than one feeder that stinker won't let any other hummingbirds...

Wood ducks are common there. I've also seen migrating Canada geese, mallards, black ducks, green winged teals, various mergansers and one time some long tailed ducks. She finally did see some wood ducks. She lives closer to the ocean so during the winter gets to see more interesting migrants...

Our state poultry tester is a big bird watcher too. She even takes vacation time in the spring to watch the warblers migrate through. One bird she wanted to see but hadn't yet was a pileated woodpecker. While we were testing my birds one day a pair flew through so she finally got to see one. We...

We get downy, hairy and red belied woodpeckers as well as the occasional flicker at the suet feeders. The pileated are too big to eat at them.

My son likes to try to take bird pictures. He has a good camera though. We certainly have titmice. They like to hang out with the chickadees and nuthatches. I didn't see any orioles today but I sure heard them. The pileated woodpeckers were rather vocal too.

Ack! These loudmouths can be nice to have around sometimes. They harass hawks very well. I just wish they didn't shovel out the bird feeders in less than 5 minutes and spend all day fighting with the crows, ravens and robins.

There are orioles around here. I haven't heard or seen one yet this year but my parents have. We have a hummingbird that comes to hanging baskets. She seems to like fuschias.

I'm not sure if catbirds hang out at picnic tables. I have seen them in pairs occasionally but most often I see them alone. They eat suet too in addition to fruit. I have suet up for most of the year, trying to distract woodpeckers from the barn. Wrens and chickadees like it too.

It's a catbird. Ours is back, we named him the happy catbird. He goes from tree to tree singing at the top of his lungs. The caterpillars are starting to hatch. There have been tons of chickadees hanging on my apple and pear trees chowing down on them.
