They can also cross with grey wolves in areas where both are present.

Raccoon broke in but left the chickens? Or did it steal from another animal???

I very much dislike coyotes! We live on a farm out in the middle of nowhere and they come up to the house here too. We have a decent size herd of cattle and they will come up and try to eat the calf while the mother is delivering or shortly after the calf is born. We have also had them gang up...

Raccoon broke in but left the chickens? Or did it steal from another animal???

BB gun would probably not be enough - Small birds at the most. High powered pellet gun would work for a rodent up to the size of the opossum, maybe raccoon with a couple shots - pellet guns shoot about the same as a bb gun (not much kick). We use a .22 rifle. The hint on the skunk also works if...

Raccoon broke in but left the chickens? Or did it steal from another animal???

Thanks for pointing that out. My grandpa was relocating to the far end of his property....not quite far enough away. My husband and I are not catch and release people. If the predator is after our livestock or pets, it is a threat and will be taken care of. I wouldn't relocate an animal just for...

Raccoon broke in but left the chickens? Or did it steal from another animal???

Just another FYI for you as I am not sure if you are a trap and eliminate type person or a trap and relocate type person, If you catch a skunk in a live trap and want to relocate it rather than eliminate it, find an old blanket and hold it up in front of you as you approach the live trap and...

Raccoon broke in but left the chickens? Or did it steal from another animal???

I am thinking the tracks that are pictured are probably opossum. Like you said in one of your previous posts, the tracks don't "look "human" enough to be raccoon, the fingers are too short and the print is just too wide and stubby." That is pretty much the description of an opossum track when...

Raccoon broke in but left the chickens? Or did it steal from another animal???

I have heard that DIY bucket traps work great on mice and rats. I have not had to try it yet as we have enough barn cats to keep the mouse and rat population down.

Raccoon broke in but left the chickens? Or did it steal from another animal???

If you have any older or cracked eggs, you could bait with that (You already know that they like them. :) ). Anything smelly (fish, meat that is starting to spoil, fruit that is starting to spoil). Some others that I have heard but have not tried for opossums are apple slices, marshmallows, and...

Raccoon broke in but left the chickens? Or did it steal from another animal???

Skunk looks more like a cat print with rounded toe prints instead of long finger like toe prints...just has claw marks past the tips where a cat wouldn't.

Raccoon broke in but left the chickens? Or did it steal from another animal???

I am going to say you either have an Opossum or a Raccoon on your hands. It is kind of hard to tell exactly with just a dust print. Raccoons front paw tracks will look a lot like a human hand print with a more equidistant spacing between the 4 fingers and a larger gap between the first finger...
