    I have a pip!

Baby update: everyone is doing well. All but #12 can get in and out of their "coop" without assistance. I'm building their "run" portion of the brooder today so they can move into the porch tomorrow. Food and water will be in the run so I wanted to make sure everyone was able to jump in and out...

    I have a pip!

Hubby is doing safety holes on the unknowns then looking in for movement or noise. 12 would give me a 38% hatch rate. Not too bad I guess for backyard mutts. At least I'll have room for them to develop more in the porch with power. Probably 4 weeks or more instead of 2 weeks.

    I have a pip!

Just barely got a pip from potential baby 12. Potential baby 11 has an opening and is swallowing. Guess we'll see what morning brings. I know time is against these 2. We are at about 55 hours since first hatch. Still no signs fro the 7 unknowns. Will will recandle after 11 and 12 do whatever...

    I have a pip!

They've all figured out that my hands are good things. Most of them will jump in my hand happily. I currently have polite little poppers. If I'm holding them they get all wiggly and escapey. I put them down, they walk away, poop, walk back and jump into my lap. :lau silly babies

    I have a pip!

Baby 9 has me flummoxed! It has yellow feathers and black down. ( yes I realize all they have right now is down I guess undercoat would be better). Baby 10 is a RIR mama. 9 is on the right.

    I have a pip!

When I've pulled babies I keep steamy hot water in a cup and fewer the sponges. Usually my humidity is higher then before I opened it within 2 minutes. Just don't open when they are pipped if possible and absolutely not durring unzipping. Take my advice with a grain of salt. This is my first...

You can always hand turn. 3 times a day just mark so you know which side is up.

    I have a pip!

Here are the first 8 numbered by birth order. Luckily they each have a unique mark. 9 and 10 are in containers in the incubator so they don't mess with the eggs. They are the "moral support for the 2 confirmed still alive babies.

    I have a pip!

I am not familiar with duck breeds. I'm guessing that's one of the mallard derived breeds if so they should take 28 days you should stop turning at day 25. So you said you are on day 24 25 then yes I would stop turning put them in lockdown now. I wish you all the luck.

    I have a pip!

Baby 8 has arrived. I think we finally have one that looked like the daddies. We'll see come morning. This mama hen needs sleep. The first pip was 2 am Thursday/Friday. First hatch was 3:30 pm Friday. What is the 48 "most should be done" time? I started with 31 eggs, have 8 live babies, 1...

    I have a pip!

Looks like I have some RIR that lay tan eggs. The pattern on its back is RIR-ish. I have another similar still in the incubator. Also out of a pale shell. And currently hatching one if my darker shell but still not brown.

    I have a pip!

Mine are mutts too. The daddies were mutts. Mamas were all "pure bred" or at least breed standard.
