big and meaty are 2 completely different things. I've seen plenty of fast growing BIG cochin and brahma cockerels, yet they never did mature out to have any meat on their bones.

Black Cornish do not exist. Real Cornish are not adding any 'fast' growth. Matter of factly, they're slowing down maturity rates. This breed is by some margin extremely slow to mature.

Science and experience typically go hand in hand... but in this case breeding get experience in using the. Cornish rock hybrid birds in breeding projects trumps science. These birds can and will mate, however as I have already stated you can suspect tons of infertile eggs. Based on my...

Just came in from butchering this dude. He didn't winter very well, and either was injured, or frost bite to a foot. 6 months old- hanging dressed carcass of 6 pounds 10 oz. However, I take the wings off a joint lower than most people, so add that in, and we're looking at easily a 7 pound...

I have a couple CX x White Cornish cockerels that I plan to breed back to White Cornish hens this year. Will be an interesting cross.

No, simple misunderstandings do not resort in such strong words being spoken. I agree, this thread is now useless, and comprised.

That's about as accurate as research using Wikipedia... I have books from the 1800s, they are interesting... I'll assure you that there are no 'purebred' lines involved with the Cornish cross broilers of today. There might be 'purebred' lines of Broiler birds, and purebred meaning able to...

WHAT'S YOUR POINT? Seems irrelevant to me. I do doubt that you know what happened 100 plus years ago. But, I know for a fact in order to take a crossbred bird, and to stabilze the gene pool enough for it to replicate it'self- that bird had to be linebred towards that goal for many...

You must be mis-informed. Linebreeding is the oldest method of forming a breeding program. How do you think that the breeds were established? LInebreed individuals for generations and generations to set the 'type'. I'll agree that heterosis is why the CX birds thrive. However, I can make...

Simple solution, linebreed and keep the lines pure. Adding in new lines and looking for genetic diversity, will never be a goal of mine. I can make plenty of progress with enough hatching and genetic selections.

Exactly my point. What kind of person wants to share information, but then doesn't answer questions- instead gets made and deletes the whole thing.

    Breeding Cornish X Rocks

How helpful to others can you be, if you refuse to answer questions? In order for some other person to replicate the cross, and do it, or a version for themselves- it's clearly obvious that you truly don't want to share facts and stats about your birds. Chow.

Here is my meat bird project. They breed true (been doing this for 4 generations now). The first picture shows the carcass next to two rabbits, and a knife with a total length of 9 inches. This bird was hatched in late April/ early May- butchered 3 weeks ago. Live weight of just over 9...

    Breeding Cornish X Rocks

Let's hear some rock solid facts. How many birds do you hatch every year? Hatch rate? Growth rates? Pounds of carcass? How many breeder birds do you have? What steps did you hurdle to get from start to present? What kind of genetic progress have you made, or are the birds today the same as they...

While that cross should work, I believe that my Cornish backyard birds would be more 'fool prooft' in terms of restricted diet. I have found that in order to max egg production, fertility, and hatching rates-- nutrition needs to be at the highest point possible. That cannot happen with...

You can butcher them anytime from 6-12 weeks of age. Appropriately, 8-9 seems like ideal. We leave our's in the fridge for 12-36 hours usually in water soaking.

Doubt you find any true meaty hatching eggs to purchase, without buying 10 plus dozen. butcher them at the appropriate age, and do not mess around with DP breeds. They are a mixture of breeds and composites. Nothing more than a hybrid.

Read my BYC- there is quite a few links and info on there on the CX birds. While I agree they can be duplicated, because anything can-- I think the original trait being multiplied was a 'defect' for a lack of a better word-- and I think it will be nearly impossible to re-create the steps...
