    Standard Old English Games

We have quite a few game hens that can't be penned with other hens because even they will fight to the death. Mean little buggers. No other breed of hen I have free ranging can whip my game hens that run loose. Even the heavy breed hens two and three times their size. Games are aggressive by...

Yes they will absolutely still fight to the death. Once they reach a certain age and start fighting you will have to pen them all individually. They aren't like other breeds where the roosters can tolerate one another. A game rooster hates other roosters and will fight to the death for that...

Definitely stick around on this thread then and learn with the rest of us. Games are a beautiful breed whether they are Old English or American. I have many American Games and have Old English Games as well. I love them both. :)

He looks pea combed so he isnt OEG. See how his comb lops over? He may have some OEG in his ancestry but he looks more American Game to me. Old English Games have straight combs. Pea combs come from oriental blood infused into the American pit Games. Here is your avatar pic I blew up on my...

Looking good! I look forward to seeing his offspring. :D I will be breeding my best double barred cockerel to a nice BBR hen next year to get some white legged creles that are showable. Mine are definitely a work in progress also.

The APA SOP can be purchased on the website JohnEugene provided. There are several approved varieties of OEG including BBR, SDW, GDW, crele, self blue, black, spangled, brown red, red pyle, and lemon blue.

My spangled clarets meet the Old English standard for leg color, type, and comb but the amount of white they have would be a huge defect for show.

Here are some American Game stags from my crele project. I am working these closer to the SOP for Old English so I can show them one of these days. They are Kentucky Dom/Kelsos. Here is one that is double barred. Not SOP at all but a lovely bird. Here are his single barred full brothers.

They call them brown leghorns because the hens are brown (wildtype color). The color is the sames as BBR in Games, aka wild type color. Brown leghorns have yellow legs so that is fine. Standard old english game are supposed to be white legged. American Games differ from OEG and can be green...

Good luck with your hatch! Yes its very easy to spend a fortune on game chickens. They are very expensive. We have payed $500 for a single bird many times. Here is our old Deadend Grey cock, he was $500. He was the prettiest grey bird I have ever seen. And here is is grand daughter...

We let all our chicks out to free range once they're about 2 months old or so. They run and fly and scratch all day. Free ranging as they grow out makes for very healthy birds. It doesnt take them long to be roosting in trees. The older they get, the higher they go. Our free ranging game...

Wow I didnt know that. I'm still learning about chicken genetics. Do you recommend a particular book on chicken genetics? If that's the case though, I think we had some blueface hatch hens that must have been carrying it. They were wheaten but had that marking pattern your hen has.

The top bird most definitely looks like a ginger. Very striking color! And the silver is amazing!

If I bring home more chickens my husband would shoot me where I stood. Lol. Thanks though, I appreciate the offer. We are pretty tapped out on space now, especially once this year's stags start needing to be penned up.

He looks good! Its awesome you got such a great deal on him. The white skin would be an asset for working a crele line toward SOP. I have a ways to go there.
