Thank you for this. All the chicks have definitely perked up with the new food and pro-biotics, and all appear to be very healthy, but I will keep this in mind if I need to get corid in the future.
I got them pro-biotics, as well as the medicated food. I was told by the chick employee that the pro-biotics would stop the outbreak and get the chicks healthy again. I really stressed on the Corid, but he kept assuring me that the pro-biotics would do the job. What do you think? Im afraid I may...
I got the medicated food, on top of pro-biotics. The pro-biotics are a powder, that I mix into their water. The worker, that was specifically there for the chicks, told me that these pro-biotics would save the ill ones. Should I go back and get Corid instead?
I understand that now, but thank you. I also got them pro-biotics and electrolytes. I asked the chick person at Tractor Supply and told him my situation. He agreed that it sounded like coccidiosis, and showed me the stuff that he said would save them from an outbreak. It's not Corid, but he said...
I just wanted to update everyone:
The third chick did end up passing away, again in my arms. All the others are very lively, bright Combs/skin, great looking poop (never thought I'd say this haha), and don't appear sickly. I threw out the 5 month old food, and got medicated food that will help...
I will definitely tell them about it, but it was only $7 so not a big loss. As for the chicks, we got them from a local feedstore not Tractor Supply, but they are still refundable or I can choose a replacement chick. I will not be getting more chicks from that feed store though, based off the...
Alright, thank you. I am going to get the corid right now. Thankfully all the other chicks seem very lively and no symptoms, but I will vaccinate all of them. I will still get the medicated feed as well.
This is my first bad experience from getting chicks through a feed store. But also the first time not going through a big chain. Not sure if there's correlation or not, but it seemed like the feed store I went to were not that knowledgable on chicks.
This is what I'm thinking is the cause. They had come in, the day I took them home. So they were in at least 3 or 4 days of transportation, and they simply passed when they got to my house, the final destination. They were only at the store for a couple hours, so it would make sense that they...
Yeah, it came from the Tractor Supply! I am disgusted and will be throwing it out immediately and getting new food. I'm making sure it has coccidiostat in it as well.
I've misplaced the box that the light bulb came in, but I made sure it was specifically for chickens and brooders. So I do not think that Teflon would be an issue, since it's specifically for chicks. I live in the Pacific Northwest, in Washington state, and it's been a little rainy but nothing...
Alright thank you. The link that you provided says to feed medicated grit that has coccidiostat in it. I just looked and the food I'm feeding them does not have that. If I get food that has coccidiostat in it, will that be sufficient enough to save the rest?
They haven't been in any kind of soils. So could they still have gotten it some way? Their stools are completely normal as well. They had just arrived at the feed store on Saturday, same day I picked them up. So could it just be transportation issues?
There is no redness, nor any descripincies in their stool. It looks completely normal and has correct firmness. The chicks have not been in contact with any sort of soil; at the feed store they were on wood shavings. Also, I bought fresh feed from the Tractor Supply, so completely dofferent...
Hello,
I recently purchased 12 various bantam chicks from a local feedstore on Saturday. They gave me an additional one for free because they felt it was close to passing, and I agreed to give it a chance. So I came home with 13 chicks last night. Since I brought them home at 4pm, two of them...
