Update: 6-24-2013
I never thought that I would be updating this thread with this information almost 2 years later. For those of you who have followed this post from Day 1 and are aware of Mr. Turkey's ordeal, I can't believe I'm even posting this news. On Friday, when I returned home from...
Sorry to hear about your tom. Keep me posted. If you can take a pic of him/his neck, please post so that I can take a look at him.
Good luck and let me know if you need help or have any questions.
You will be ok. If he doesn't eat or drink, he will die. So you will have to decide. I agree with you in that you will have to squirt the meds directly into his mouth. There is a way that you can position him (you may need to get a 2nd person) where he can't move but at the same time, you are...
Thank you. I'm glad that this information is available for those that need it. If you ever have any questions, please don't hesitate to post or send me a PM. I will do anything I can to save a turkey or any other animal. ;)
Please read my thread. I experienced the same thing with my Tom. Post #8 in the first link explains what I did. He has had about 3 bouts of wry neck and was able to recover twice. The last time his neck didn't straighten back up. So, he has been living with wry neck for about 1 1/2 years...

Can you please check in daily if you can?
It is VERY important that he eats and drinks and if there are ANY respiratory issues, he MUST be treated IMMEDIATELY or else I'm not sure what the outcome will be. If you need to PM me, PLEASE feel free.
I hope he gets to feeling better.

So sorry to hear about your turkey. That was probably the best thing to do for her since she was so young. At least you know she isn't in any pain anymore. Sorry that you had to go through that. Keep us posted on the rest of your turkeys and their health.

I think those words would go for any virus, you'll have some that show symptoms and others that don't (asymptomatic). I believe that I read somewhere that turkeys aren't as susceptable as chickens are? If it is ND there are different strains, some more virulent. I don't know if the...

More info can be found from Merck http://www.merckvetmanual.com/mvm/index.jsp?cfile=htm/bc/203702.htm I hate to say it, but the symptoms kind of match... I have also heard of Botulism causing a twisted neck, they can get that from things that they find to eat. If you wanted to have...

Thank you Frosty. I backed off on the vitamins a week or so ago. I thought that same thing as far as the vitamins being "over kill". Thanks for bringing that up. I have began to massage his neck. He really seems to enjoy the massage. I will be doing this 2 times a day every day...

Sometimes that knowledge and advice saves more than just one bird though. Divided among a flock of say 20, its only $5 bucks a bird...
Thank you SunnyCalifornia. You're absolutely right. With hatching season here, I currently have 183 chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese (not including...

He just said that it sounds like my turkey had a "respiratory problem". I was able to clear the problem on my own with medication and my own treatment plan. So, when I brought my turkey there on Saturday, my turkey was completed clear of everything. The only thing that was wrong with...

Good question. My conclusion is that the wry neck comes from respiratory problem, which once he gets the infection, it causes the vitamin deficiency and then he gets the wry neck. So, I would agree with you 110% in that it is a vitamin deficiency. And I think you're right about the...

Thank you. I have learned from many people on this forum, so I try to provide information as well. How is the chick that had wry neck? Did she make it?
I have read a lot of posts about turkeys having respiratory problems and a couple posts about wry neck in turkeys, so I decided to compile information about my Tom Turkey's medical issues and what I did, so that in the future, if newcomers or anyone else has this same problem, they can read this...
