Happy early Birthday Mortie! I definitely have a Nelly Yelly. When Penny lays or any of the other girls lay, she sings up a storm. I also go and check to make sure nothing is wrong. She is also my most vocal hen....clucks a lot, which I love.

Now...that's a happy and satisfied chicken. I love watching my girls eat...especially when I give them kelp. They love tossing it in the air before they realize that it's easier to eat when they hold it down with one foot and peck it.

The axe would certainly scare something out of me too!

My hen with the prolapse got worse yesterday so I put her down. Hatchery birds are just turning 3 yrs and I have lost 3 out of 9. It will be interesting to see if the Ameraucanas from the breeder will be longer lived. Sorry to hear you had to put her down.
