    Tough Week (now Ruby)

Hi everyone, Just wanted to share that Ruby seemed to tolerate the heat pretty well yesterday. This morning her tail was a little higher and she actually talked to me a little. It was so good to hear her voice! Fingers crossed...

Thanks. I don’t think I will poke her again. I assume that’s what you meant @Texas Kiki? I plan to continue the doxy for a 7 day course at least, maybe 10. It doesn’t appear to be helping yet, but when she was sick in the spring, it took awhile for her to respond to treatment and she was in...

    Tough Week (now Ruby)

Ok, friends. Here is Ruby after work today. Her belly is HUGE. But she’s still eating heartily...

    Tough Week (now Ruby)

Sorry I’m obsessing on this today now that the wedding is over. In the video I meant “earlier” when I said “yesterday.” :)

OMG, there are a couple drops of blood where Ruby was standing. When the avian vet tried to tap her, Ruby bled then, too. She’s waddling around the yard foraging on greens, and when I run my hand along the area where I think I poked, there is no blood.

Well that was a fail. First poke, she flinched and the needle dropped before it even really went in. Second poke definitely went in, but no fluid came out. I did not attach, nor pull with, the syringe. I just feel like the needle would be moving around inside too much. When the vet did this...

18 gauge was the biggest. On my way home to try this. The feed store chicken lady recommended I don’t even attach a syringe, Which I was thinking of, anyway.

Thanks. If I can’t drain her, I may take her in to an avian vet this week. I am starting to realize that this might end with me having her put down. I can’t let her suffer. I’ll keep you posted.

Ok, I’ll ask when I get there. Thank you!

    Tough Week (now Ruby)

In the spring when I took Ruby in, the avian vet was unable to tap her. The fluid seemed compartmentalized. However, it did go away for a few months, so it may be worth attempting draining at home. Will the doxycycline prevent infection from the puncture? I haven’t weighed her, but last time...

They have 18 gauge at my feed store!

They didn’t when I went two years ago. I can call today. We’re taking my son to the airport in an hour, so I’ve been planning on going afterward. I’ll call right now.

I found this needle left from when I drained Rusty a couple years ago. I recall I was unable to draw any fluid, but a lot did drip out on its own. My heart is racing a little bit just thinking about trying this, but poor Ruby is panting a little. I should probably try.

It was a 6:00 wedding. It would be great to connect another time!

I know! Amazing! My daughter is in the wedding party and we hit traffic and had to go straight there. I wish this could work out. I might be able to get a needle at my feed store, like I did last time.

Aww... that is SUCH a nice offer! Wedding is in Brentwood, so I don’t think it will work. Ruby seems a bit better after aspirin this morning. I realize I’m just treating symptoms, but hopeful that the antibiotics might help the root cause. In the spring, it was a combination of enrofloxacin...

    Tough Week (now Ruby)

So Ruby’s not doing so great. She’s still eating, drinking, preening and dust bathing, but she’s breathing pretty fast, moving slowly, and I felt her heart racing when I picked her up. I gave her half a tablet of 81mg aspirin and half a tablet of 100mg doxycycline, along with colloidal silver in...

Yeah, that’s how I’m leaning. Don’t get me wrong; I’m super excited for the family stuff, but I worry about my birds suffering. Bridge didn’t want to come out today, but pretty sure she’s just molting. She’s dropping feathers now. Phew! Poor Ruby. I HATE that she has this problem.

    Tough Week (now Ruby)

Ruby is sneezing a little when she eats this morning and is slow, but does not appear to be in distress (she’s eating, drinking, preening). I listened at the hardware cloth door she was right beside last night and there are zero respiratory noises. I’m wondering if I should put her back on...
