Tough Week (now Ruby)

I found this needle left from when I drained Rusty a couple years ago. I recall I was unable to draw any fluid, but a lot did drip out on its own. My heart is racing a little bit just thinking about trying this, but poor Ruby is panting a little. I should probably try.

In the spring when I took Ruby in, the avian vet was unable to tap her. The fluid seemed compartmentalized. However, it did go away for a few months, so it may be worth attempting draining at home. Will the doxycycline prevent infection from the puncture? I haven’t weighed her, but last time she weighed about seven pounds when she was full of fluid. I think something like 68mg might be what she needs. (I did the math, but can’t find it at the moment.) I may have aspirated her slightly, so I’d prefer to dose with the half pills I’ve been giving her.
