Well I think I've finally figured out my spring order of chicks.

Just make up some reason to thin down your flock a bit and then get some more...Lol. I have to build a couple more coops as well.

Well I think I've finally figured out my spring order of chicks.

I am so excited I can't stand it. I am going to order the Cackle hatchery surprise so then I won't even know what I am getting...even when they get here I won't know what is what until they are grown...it's super exciting. I am just hoping that they can make it past all the issues facing the...

Well I think I've finally figured out my spring order of chicks.

Adults can be vaccinated for Marek's but they say that most adult birds have already come into contact with Marek's and survived to tell the tale, so the vaccine is usually moot, but yes you can give your adults a vaccine every year if you want to. Some people do...But statistically any bird...

Well I think I've finally figured out my spring order of chicks.

I have hard that pigs are easy to get attached to as well and hard when it comes slaughter time if you spend a lot of time with them. That is mostly what keeps me back from trying my hand at pig farming.

Well I think I've finally figured out my spring order of chicks.

I knew I would like the chickens and I wasn't 100% that I could eat one. But I could. So it all works out in the end. They are a fun creature though. I like to watch them when they are going about doing all their chicken business.

Well I think I've finally figured out my spring order of chicks.

We don't get too terribly attached to the chickens simply because they are all just future nuggets walking around out there..but I do not like for them to die in some other manner that I have no control over. And there are some that I could never kill, but I am going to try to not get too...

Well I think I've finally figured out my spring order of chicks.

Me too. I guess I just didn't know how very likely it was that my chickens would be afflicted with issues. I figured since I only have a few blah blah blah...but nope...now I am prepared to lose some chickens here and there, and it seems like that is a huge part of keeping chickens...knowing...

Well I think I've finally figured out my spring order of chicks.

Well I went up today to take their pictures and feed them and change the water and I noticed that the chick that has been doing the worst is in fact laying there today with one foot forward and one foot back...so I guess that decides that...Sux, but apparently is so common that it will happen to...

Well I think I've finally figured out my spring order of chicks.

Maybe I keep them and they become named flop and flip...?Nah...there is definitely something wrong with them both...one more so than the other... I just can't ignore that both chicks started with the same symptoms...one foot curled up walking on a balled up foot...

Well I think I've finally figured out my spring order of chicks.

I've got a post in the emergency section. I'll take pics tomorrow although there isn't a lot to see...perhaps I can get a video of them trying to walk...they look normal when they are sitting there...Because they aren't putting one leg out front and one behind...they just aren't walking right on...

Well I think I've finally figured out my spring order of chicks.

yeah, at first I thought it was because they were hurting their back toe...which maybe it is a slipped tendon, but it didn't happen to either chick until they were 3 months old...I'll check them out again tomorrow and see what else it might be...but nothing is coming to me. As I said I did...

Well I think I've finally figured out my spring order of chicks.

There are no symptoms at all other than keeping the toes on one foot curled in for the one that started limping first. their eyes look good, but now they are both just really off balance...no leg forward leg back...just unsteady like their legs can't hold them. The later limping chicken is by...

Well I think I've finally figured out my spring order of chicks.

Well we don't have a run..the chickens have their coop that they go into in the evenings, and that is all...They are free the rest of the time. Before we get the new chicks the coop will have been cleaned, with new hay spread for the larger birds. My husband says he won't pay to do a necropsy...

Well I think I've finally figured out my spring order of chicks.

And I won't be ordering any chicks for another month...during this time we will have killed the 2 that are ailing and be able to watch for signs of others having issues. And the new chicks won't be with the older birds for at least 2 months...so no issues there.

Well I think I've finally figured out my spring order of chicks.

I thought you weren't supposed to feed medicated feed to vaccinated chicks...I don't know if that is right or not, I think I heard it on here...the 2 chicks in question are suffering a bit of paralysis not caused by any deficiency, so I am assuming it is marek's...My husband says there is no way...

Well I think I've finally figured out my spring order of chicks.

I am going to get the Brown egg layer mix from my pet chicken 25. And I want to get 5 cochins, and 5 EE, and 5 silkies. Then from murray Mcmurray I am going to get the 15 broiler mix. I'm so freaking excited. It feels like it will be forever until time to get them...I keep looking locally and a...
