I know they aren't SQ or even a showable color, lol, but thought I'd share some (very poor ;) ) updated pics of my GL Brahmas. They still have a little growing and filling out to do, but I absolutely love them!
Pardon the winter beaten yard, lol.
Here is my GL Brahma update on the one with VERY clear VH. One from behind and one from the side, sorry that one of the other GL Brahmas is in the second side photo. These are right at 6 months old.
I have a little (well not little anymore!) chick that when I posted photos as a hatchling (about a week old) here was told had really clear (incredible was the word used ) VH. I will get pics tomorrow to show how prominent they can be! While this is just my backyard flock and I don't really...
Hope everyone here had a great holiday!!!! It was quite nice to see my grandfather up and moving again after nearly a month in the hospital, along with the rest of the family at dinner. Wishing everyone a great new year!
At 18 weeks of age, with no comb/wattle enlargement or redness (barely any pink to speak of), would it be safe to assume my Brahmas are pullets? I know they aren't entirely proper, especially since one has major VH and the other two are siblings (hatchmates), these are just to be nice, pretty...
Thank you! We don't have plans for children, the animals are our kids here! He wanted these big ol' birds, I like BBS Jersey Giants, and I WILL have some someday! Lucky you having 40+, we are just getting started. Love the showgirl in your avatar by the way! So cute.
Thank you ShayBaby (if you were talking to me!). I really enjoy them, and so does DH (they were a gift from me to him). They are so nice to watch walk through the yard, and so funny to watch when they try flying!
I know these aren't the best quality (from my first post here!), but I thought I would post just a couple of updated pictures for the fun of it! Yes, they have VH, and they aren't perfect, but they are mine, and they are such great birds. Have 1 suspect cockerel in the group, maybe 2, but...
As promised, the pics of the GLB with vulture hocks, sorry I didn't get them up yesterday, but between outside time, then a scare when a hawk was seen (we were out with all the littles the entire time!) and the quick gathering and taking inside, and of course cleaning the brooder (again, lol)...
Well, guess I feel a little silly now, but still glad to have them, I will try to get more pics of all of them up tonight, at least to show the fault so others can learn.
Oh, ok then, glad I picked ones that seemed more hen like (some of the birds had a bit more comb development), they can just join the layers as pretty girls...they were also moving a lot during the pics, not really great shots of them. They will enjoyed either way!
Is that good Tim? We just saw some of these visiting another farm a couple if weeks ago (not the same source the babies were from), but liked them a lot, then saw these available and thought it would be nice to add. Any critiques would be nice, as these are really the first birds we got with...
Thank you! The parents to these came directly from Powell, so I have high hopes! We hope at some point in the next couple of years to have quite a few breeding pens for various breeds, but for now we are aiming for mostly pullets, so that we have nice mature birds when we start breeding.
Just got our first brahmas! My other half loved the look of these big round kids, and really liked the gold laced brahmas specifically, so I got him 3 1 week old chicks as a surprise yesterday! Here they are...
