    New Coop Plans

All great points! Love the "traffic pattern" notion. Yes, I remember your coop stack up notes, and the overhead room above roosts. I am going to modify as follows: - Nest boxes 8 inches off floor (lower than my original 20 inches but high enough for deep bedding) - Roosts: make them 6 feet...

    New Coop Plans

Thank you aart! All of those are very helpful. I will make sure soffits are at least 12" and will put in an additional window. A few additional questions: - Do you think I should just make the coop floor 8x8 instead of 8x10 so that it aligns better with material dimensions (lumber/plywood)...

Thank you Rural!! I definitely will consider all. Raising the door was already in my plan, just didnt properly show it, but that is a must to keep bedding in order.

    New Coop Plans

Ok all - I have sketched up a larger coop. See the attached pic. This is a basic floor plan and layout of the nest boxes, door, main vents. I went with an 8x10 ft size. I plan on locking down the main design, then making it adaptable to larger sizes. The "optional slide doors" are exactly...

Thanks for your reply! Yes I have made lots of updates and added a ton of free info on Chicken Math and other important topics. I have been working hard over the last 2 and a half weeks to introduce these improvements. I'll take another look at the Mini Coop specs for sure, thank you. One...

Art - thanks for the response. I really do appreciate it and am looking to make these long-standing and functional plans. I am re-working them to consider all of your comments, especially those on vents and roosts. I am also going to have 3 new large designs made, which will incorporate all...

    New Coop Plans

Yep - I am going to add an article about chicken math using the 4sq ft per coop and 10sq ft per run. I already give the sq ft of each coop, but I think the additional info about chicken math will be appreciated by visitors.

    New Coop Plans

Seriously, brilliant idea. I can simply double all of my current measurements. I can even keep the current models but have those all under small models, and use the doubled up versions as the medium designs. Everything will be twice as big(vents, etc) and twice as good!

I appreciate that. These comments, albeit some of them "hard", are very very helpful. Life isnt always sugar coated though, back to the drawing board to re-work a few of the details which will hopefully make my plans stand out above the rest!

Thanks Gary - already working on updating it for correct math.

    New Coop Plans

I was actually thinking about adding the "depending on breed size"...I think that is a good add. Here is a question back to those of you who are very experienced - lets assume the coop itself is 4x8, making it 32 sq feet. It also has a built in run that is 12x6 (72 sq feet). What would the...

@cholland - thank you. You know, didnt even think of the wheel idea...GREAT idea, I am going to look into it right away. I really appreciate it, this is more of the feedback I was hoping for :). I am re-working the numbers now, it seems 3sq feet is simply not a good number, I am going to...

    New Coop Plans

Understood, I am openly posting here looking for improvements because I am trying to do this the RIGHT way and not be another crappy coop design company. If I was trying to mislead or "fool" people, I wouldnt have posted here to begin with. Think about it...me putting myself out here is...

    New Coop Plans

Thank you. I went by 2-3 sq ft per bird for chicken math (do you not all agree with this?), which is what I used for all of these coops. I appreciate the comments, everyone seems to be dwelling on the chicken numbers. I do have ranges, typically going from 4 birds to X numbers, which varies...

    New Coop Plans

Thanks for the feedback. To address your comments - 1 - I did do my research, as I have built many coops myself. The rule of thumb is 2-3 sq feet per bird. So if the coop has 32 sq ft, technically it can be up to 16 birds, which I agree would be tight. I do put different number parameters...
