yes it has some brown feathers mixed in with silver feathers. Looking at the 2nd pic. I have a hunch it might be a girl. I will try and take a clearer shot of the chest. Is it possible its gender can be determined at 3 weeks.

I weighed the biggest 2 of the 5 again Silver? - the largest one-shot up to 158 grams Then my next largest one (not pictured) a Rosetta quail is the second largest at 135 grams same age. As you can see he/she too young to identify gender is a very big bird already compared to his hatch mate...

Im not sure but not just the colour. But the size of this quail chick is huge. Its like 3 weeks and twice the size of some of the other ones, or my last batch at the same age.

I believe my largest quail chic, is a silver. I will take photos later. This means it from the mail order. Cause none of my current flock is Silver or have any traces of silver in their feathers. All the quail eggs that came via the mail were Jumbos or A&M according to the supplier of the 24...

Hatch #4 is a disaster. I thought it couldn't get worse than 3. Day 8 and 10. Started with 34 eggs, cracked opened 18 and then 9. Bringing it down to 7. Then when i was candling another I cracked it open by accident, and then i decided to cut it open to investigate. At first, I felt I was all...

15 of 84 is not a good rate. But consider its more 15 of 42 as 40 were infertiles. So you did better than I did. I had 6 of 15 fertiles. And 1 bled to death cause it had a hymophobe. I had 1 with a smaller hymophobe that survived and 4 others. And the 5 of them are nearly 2 weeks old. And some...

It looked more like green liquid, like the listerine get into the eggs. Some of the eggs had brown goo which was more likely bacteria. I did some reading and think its better not to clean eggs at all putting them in the incubator as it can make things worse. Removing protective liner of eggs...

5 Little Dinosaurs running round the brooder now. Green gunk in 3 eggs was from rinsing eggs in listerine. I think next time not to worry about cleaning the eggs before setting.

Ok did the math Incubator holds 56 eggs. So I had 55 eggs. I removed 22 infertiles before incubation, but still 13 i overlooked. So this is the math Eggs through mail Total 24 22 Infertile 1 Fully developed didnt hatch 1 Hatched but died cause had a Haemphobia that got pecked open and bled to...

After reviewing i think this might be the biggest problem, i spraid some not all of these eggs. Hence why only 6 of the 21 viables survived. I will not spray eggs at all this time.

    Dry Hatching Cortunix Quails

The green gunk in the eggs might have been the green listerine and water mixd i sprayed the eggs with at the start. Im thinking this time would it be better not to spray the eggs with anything except maybe just some water.

Erkenstein. Thats what i will do from now on. I was able to bring in Manchurians from the previous hatch prior to this one. Hatched out three 1 male and 2 females that survived to adulthood and a sole female rosetta. I had some browns, italians already. Wanted to add some Texas A&M as my two...

3 Eggs had green gunk growing inside. What should i use to thoroughly clean the incubator i used dish washing liquid to scrub off all the hard bits. Then i sprayed with bleach and then used a hose to get the water off. Im going to test the incubator later to see how much electricity its consuming.

Hey Erkenstein thanks. But the age of the birds wasnt really the factor. I think its more the 24 eggs i got int he mail around 18-20 of them were infertile. I think the guy just sent me old eggs. We have 2 males with 6 Hens, 5 were laying at the time, #6 just started laying. Im just concerned at...

    Dry Hatching Cortunix Quails

Yeah its a bit gut wrenching i really think having too many Infertile eggs in there sucking up moisture and maybe oxygen. Compromised the other 15 viable quail chics from hatching. Imagine 56 eggs set and 35 of them were infertile. And then i only managed to remove 22 and still over looked 13...

Ok regarding this process. It hasnt turned out good. I dont want to go into too much detail as i already posted all my notes on one of my blogs. Overall this and my hard drive dying on my desktop pc hasn't been a very good week. Basically 6 of 21 hatched. Imagine i had 35 infertile eggs (24...
