External pip on underside of air cell… do I flip?

Congratulations! I'm so glad they've both hatched successfully. It sounds like the first one was probably malpositioned. I think you could bathe the second one in warm water, but maybe it would be better to just wipe it and see if it dries up normally on its own. I'm not sure. The mom and her...

External pip on underside of air cell… do I flip?

The inner membrane should look relatively transparent when you moisten it. A video would be good. Oh, yes, if the duckling didn't pip into the air cell, then you may have to wait up to about 24 extra hours before hatching. How long has it been now? Sounds like it's probably doing all right...

External pip on underside of air cell… do I flip?

I'm not sure about the vibrating thing. Maybe it's time to take a closer look. Maybe someone with more experience than me can chime in. @Kiki @Pyxis I agree that the membrane is probably dry. Have you tried moistening it yet? I don't think safety hole would help. That's just for ducklings that...

External pip on underside of air cell… do I flip?

It's the same with ducks. But there are a lot of hatchers (myself included) who do open the incubator during lockdown. You just have to be careful that the humidity doesn't drop. Misting the eggs/incubator helps prevent the humidity from falling. Some people will open the incubator in a humid...

External pip on underside of air cell… do I flip?

No progress is normal. Next time you wet the sponges, you could try wetting the membrane as well with coconut oil or water on a Q-tip. I'd recommend misting the incubator and eggs (just don't get water in any pip holes in case it gets into the duckling's nostrils) with a spray bottle too. The...

External pip on underside of air cell… do I flip?

I often see mine rocking around without seeming to make progress, so I think that's normal. Yes, they rest for hours upon hours after the external pip, usually more than 24 hours, often up to 48 hours, occasionally more.

External pip on underside of air cell… do I flip?

Good! If you're hearing clicking or pipping, the duckling has internally pipped, even if you can't tell from candling.

External pip on underside of air cell… do I flip?

Sounds like they're doing good! There are varying opinions on humidity, but personally, I'd raise it more. Ducklings need a ton of humidity. There's no such thing as too high humidity for hatching. Some think that high hatching humidity causes drowning, but that's not true--high INCUBATION...

External pip on underside of air cell… do I flip?

I don't think there's any need to rotate it. I've had a lot of eggs that pipped facing downwards. Jagged air cell lines probably don't mean an internal pip, but sometimes it can be a bit hard to tell by candling, especially if you're new to it. Try holding the egg up to your ear and see if you...
