    @mockingbird Barred chicks will not show barring until they feather in, but they will have a white head spot when hatched. The white head spot indicates the barring gene. So any with white heat spots will be cockerels.

    If the male parent is barred then all the offspring will be barred, so it doesn't work the other way around..... the female must be barred and the male none barred for a sex link,

    Then your barred chick is a roo because the barred hen(Dominique in this case) can only pass the barring gene to her male offspring.... your chick is technically a black sex link roo.
