I am so sad for you and Rosie. Poor girl. You did as much as anyone could to giver her a happy life and certainly made a difference giving her so much love in her short life. I do hope Ella Pickle adjusts quickly -- did she see Rosie's body? If so she will know Rosie died and didn't just...
@3bird Did the vet say which tendon has slipped? It sure seemed like a hip problem from your earlier descriptions and videos.
You are doing really good with the physio and mobility sling you fixed up!
I hope your local vet can help tomorrow.
The way you are doing. Using narrow strips of vet wrap high up round the thigh bones then under the ducklings belly and up round the other leg -- high up on the thigh bone. I have a vision of using a figure of 8 wrap under the belly but that is probably not feasible/necessary. The photo and...
I'm actually worried you are dealing with dysplastic hips -- where the sockets are not fully formed. But, IMHO, the only way to manage that in a duckling is to have the head of the ducky femur pressed into the socket stimulating further development of the socket. So your hobbling is the best...
By the time I saw this, you had already started another thread with a photo and video of your duckling hobbled. You did good there!! I haven't seen any instructions for high hobbling like you needed to use. Your photo and video will be out future teaching resource!
If it were my duckling, without access to a vet, I would be thinking about hobbling. That is what I thought your vet might do -- show you how to hobble the top of the legs.
I wouldn't hobble today -- await the response to your video and notes sent to the avian vet. If the vet doesn't mention...
I think that if a vet is a possibility -- and a phenomenal avial vet to boot -- you should go for it.
There is something underlying your little fluffy's bow legged gait. I think your nutritional support and swimming has helped strengthen the muscles and allow the duckling to walk where it...
No it doesn't matter -- that just means it was prepared at a higher standard against contamination than oral medications!
The Durvet preparation is intended for injection in Cows or Sheep. We always give it orally in ducks. Peel of the aluminium foil, pull out the rubber plug and draw up 1 ml...
Good idea on treating niacin deficiency -- use Durvet high level Vit B Complex as the duckling has symptoms, and then start nutrition yeast with the feed.
Meanwhile also give the ducklings supervised swimming for a short period several times a day as physiotherapy for the leg.
