Thanks Donna!! , you are a sweetheart!! I would love to get some from your Brookhaven birds. Those were from my flock and I really liked the way that cross clicked. Espically interested in the blue over the GSBRs. That is the combination I used, I had a splash instead of the blue cock bird...

I use egg cartons to hatch and it seems to improve the percentage. I also cut the bottoms out of the individual cups to increase the air flow which I believe helps to make more oxygen available to the hatching chick. .....stsan

Yes, the bottom bird is a male. They look lighter because they have double the barring of the females. Congrats on the good hatch!!.......stan

I have not been good at picking from the head spot on them, pretty much a guessing game till they feather. .......stan

LOL, I have found that it is best to just not worry about 'em! I only get concerned with the humidity for the last 3 days. I do start them at 99 deg and increase to 100 for the pip and hatch. I just "set it and forget it".. I don't hav e enough hair that I can afford top loose any more worring...

My GSBR are from a different source, and I had some fertility problems last year, but did not have any hatching trouble. Almost all that went to lock down were hatched and very vigorous. It is not really a closely bred line, Frank Reese has thousands of birds from what I understand........stan

My 3rd generation is now just going into the breeding pens and none of them have been very successful before they were a close to a year old. I have gotten a few that were fertile by younger cockerels, but don't expect good fertility before a year. These are very slow to mature in every way. I...

I'm liking the #2 bird too, though it is early to make a final decision. I like his breast, his stance, his tail angle, his wing set, overall balance just seems better than #1. Make sure he is not bullied and watch him go... You will be surprised I think....stan

I like your breeding plan, as long as you are not breeding any hens with obvious faults. You would get even more diversity by using the plan 'B' rooster for a few weeks. You will put a lot of chicks on the ground with 7 hens, say 4 eggs a week = @ 30 chicks a week, maybe 15 pullets a week ...

I'm not an expert, so take my opinion for the 2 cents it's worth! I would make 2 breeding pens, trios or quads, from the best birds I have without being worrying about the black feathers. Most if not all of my hens and the hens I've seen pics of on here have an occasional black feather. They...

Mine are from the Good Shepherd line. Sorry, I do not ship chicks, but I think you should be able to find someone near you that has this line also. Maybe you can get a pullet or 2 from them, or at least chicks in the spring. I'll be glad to help with eggs if you are not able to find someone...

I'll have some in the spring. These guys don't lay this time of year. At least mine don't. They might if you put lights on them, but I don't do that. You might be better to look for someone that's still culling their pullets and is close by. ........stan

As Jeff said, it takes a looong time for those boys to grow up! They might be ready to breed in March, but they will not be finished....... stan
