I have a bunch of turkeys and chickens together and they are all a bit over a month old. One of them died and since then we have had a chick die every day or two. We opened up one of them and this is how it looked inside. Nearest vet where they can check the dead body is 2hrs away and I won't be able to go till this weekend unfortunately. It would be very helpful though if one of you may know what is wrong with them so I can quickly treat them without taking the body and waiting a whole other week for the results....

Those circles on the liver are the classic result of blackhead. Blackhead is the #1 reason many people will tell you not the keep turkeys with chickens. Chickens can harbor the protozoa with no ill effects but it is usually deadly to turkeys.

You will need to remove your turkeys from your chickens. They cannot live together, since your property is clearly infected with blackhead, which the chickens will transmit to the turkeys. The turkeys need to be in a pen as far as possible from the chickens.

There aren't really any treatments considered effective, although some people have reported cayenne pepper added into the feed to help.

Thanks a lot! I'm new to raising Turkeys
Anyways my uncle told me to mix thick yogurt with water and that seems to be working since they're all looking a lot healthier!
I will also try cayenne and will separate them from the chickens for sure
Thank you

You might consider taking a soil sample from where you intend to move the turkeys and have it tested for blackhead by the Health/Agricultural Department. Blackhead is picked up by the chickens from the soil, so if your entire property is infected, moving them away from the chickens isn't going to do much good.

I keep my turks with my chickens without issue, but blackhead isn't a problem in my area. Good luck.

Sorry for your loss. When mine get blackhead I treat with metronidazole for five days.

You can get metronidazole at Petsmart, it's sold as API General Cure, It also has praziquatil, but that will be fine. Check the back and make sure it has 250mg metronidazole and 75mg praziquantil. It look like this:

You can also buy it in 100mg tablets:

The Fish-Zole is 250mg of metronidazole (Flagyl).

Sorry, forgot to mention dose... The dose I give mine is about 25 mg per pound orally once a day for five days. Metronidazole is banned for use in food animals, so research that and decide if it's something you're willing to use.
