One of my Buffs ate a screw this morning. I saw the screw and whenever I reached out to get it, one of the hens grabbed and ate it. I don't know which chicken it was, but is there a way to tell which chicken ate it? If you do find out, is there a way to get it out without veterinarian help, or do you need to have a veterinarian take care of it? The screw was about one inch long. Thanks for your time at looking at this.

I have never heard of a chicken eating a screw, but I have seen chickens eat glass without any resulting difficulties. Hard to believe a screw might cause more problems than glass would. Good luck.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that. I can't imagine there's much you could do that wouldn't involve bringing the afflicted chicken to an avian vet for surgery, but even that would be super risky. And especially since you don't know which one ate it, I would just let the girls be. One small screw may not cause any problems at all.
