Hi! I am the proud owner of 7 hens. Me and the hubby got our first babies the end of May 2014. We started with 2 Barred Rocks, a gold Wyandotte and an Easter Egger ( Henny,Penny,Ginger & Chickaletta). My husband made our first little coop out of a garbage can storage container... well that didn't last too long. In the fall he built me a new coop with and inclosed run and a fenced in free range area. Happy chickies!! Easter saturday we went and got 3 more babies

I went there for 2 wellsummers and was undecided about the third. Well my third choice was a little yellow fluff ball with a black back and 3 black dots on her head. The guy I got her from didn't know what breed she was. Well I think she is an ancona, ( Wendy) Cute as could be...love her!! And my 2 wellsummers ended up to be 1 wellsummer and I think the other is a brown leghorn. The leghorns name is Summer...haha!! And my Wellsummers name is April. WAITING for them to start laying...any day now

Now about me. I have 2 grown children, son & daughter, and a proud Grammy to Kaleb & Anna, both my daughters children. I work in a Kindergarten Center, five year olds all day!! It is fun...love my job!! I love to crochet and knit in my spare time. My husband is the gardener in the family and is good at building coops too !!
Happy to be here,
Laura

Glad you joined Backyard chickens hope you enjoy it as much as we do. You have a beautiful flock. Has anyone started laying yet?

My four from last yea are all laying and my 3 new hens aren't. Should be any day for 2, they are doing the squat!! I keep running out there to see if I have a new layer lol!!

Hi Laura, welcome to BYC!

You have some pretty birds in your flock. It's handy having a builder in the family, he'll have plenty of projects with chickens around. Good luck on getting more eggs soon. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

It's nice to have you here!

Welcome from another relative newby - we started with 2 chickens in July 2014, and got another 2 in June of this year, which is when I finally stopped 'lurking' and actually joined BYC.

Love the pics of your girls.

You're probably still finding new things all over BYC site, I know I am. There are breed specific threads, and also a group for chicken owners living in NY State, called NY Chicken Lover !!!!

Welcome to BYC, Laura. Glad you decided to join our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. Our children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loved our chickens and made lap pets of the calmer and more gentle breeds. If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
