I have 16 five week old chicks and wondering when I can stop feeding them starter feed?

Commercial feeds are formulated to provide a balance diet. Once you start to add to the mix you change the feed's balance of nutrients. Corn usually makes up a large part of most mixes so adding more corn will change the balance. For instance corn is around 9-10 percent protein, adding more will lower the percent of protein from the 16 percent plus in the feeds recipe. That will put a crimp on their growth and latter egg production. It is generally advised to give them only round 10 percent in treats. Cracked corn would fall into the treat category. Depending on how fine it is ground I would advise not adding it to their feed as they will bill out the feed to find the larger pieces of cracked corn.Is it okay to mix ground corn I their starter food?
