Need a little advice, first chicks!

i didn't see your message till now. She's off the nest and showing the baby chicks how to scratch around. So I checked the eggs and they were just plain unfertilized eggs. Which I guess means she hatched all 7 that were fertile!!! My next question, so chickens hatch eggs all year? Will she not go brody again till spring?

I know most breeds will hatch all year round, as long as they find a warm cozy spot to lay the clutch. I had a hen that went broody one ONE egg during late fall, They egg never pipped and never hatched and she sat there for almost twice as long as needed to incubate waiting for that little rotten egg to hatch. It was so sad. So, I gave her a new fertile egg from a different hen. She sat ANOTHER 21 days and hatched a beautiful little chick. Next day. GONE. The chick vanished, must have been taken by foxes or swooped by a bird..

I have a question about baby chicks...I have 2 in the house that are approximately 11days old..can I add babies with them that are 3 days? Or will they fight

That is so sad!! I was looking into getting some eggs for my hen but luckily she hatched some!

Hmmmm my chickens are free range but I put out water and feed for them.

Yes like actually being able to eat on there own and know when to hide when predators are Around?

Yes, the younger chicks will get up under the older chicks. There may be some curious pecking, so keep an eye on them.

Get them out of your house! They will soon start to lose their down and get feathers. the down comes off as a fine dust which covers everything. That's not dust in your room, it's chick down! Yuck.
Best,
Karen

Yes, the sooner the better. I agree, the house is not a good place to brood chicks. Here's a good article about outdoor brooding. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1021050/need-a-little-advice-first-chicks/10#post_15841609

Not until they are full sized. And, they will never be completely safe from predators. If a predator can get at them, you will loose them, no matter how old they are.
