Im wanting to get all my ducks in a row before I build my incubator. Whats a safe sealent to use inside the incubator? Water based poly? Im not sure of the possible fumes. What do you all use ?

After sealing im planning on some sort of insulation. Either ridgid foam or the foil faced bubble wrap stuff. Which is better?
 
if you're building a wood cabinet type you only need a seal on the door and weatherstripping works for that, an incubator requires fresh air exchange (vents) and you shouldn't be loosing any air at the joints if they are properly fitted.
 
Im sorry I was vauge in what I was asking.

Im wondering what to use to seal the wood. I would think that exposure to constant heat and humidity would after time soak into the wood. And warp the wood. Possibly delminating plywood.
 
ah i smell what you're stepping in now. i use lacquer either sanding sealer (if going clear) or undercoater (of the desired color) followed by the top coat. some people use poly (urethane or acrylic) but it's just personal preference as either works fine, lacquer is faster and it's what i spray 99% of the time in my other woodworking jobs.

EDIT: both do need ample off gassing time and again lacquer is the winner here too. you can also run the incubator to speed this up (no it won't ignite the fumes), just make sure you keep all the vents open to allow good air exchange.

Thats what I was looking at doing. I like shellac for things like this. But I was worried about affecting the eggs. But I guess a couple days of running with vents open all the way would clear out any future vapor.
