Dirty Chicken Faces

For the last couple weeks I have noticed that some of my chickens in my flock have had very dirty faces. I wasnt too worried about it at first because I figured the dirt would jut come off but it's still on....I was thinking about washing it but I heard u can't wash chickens faces. Any recommendations on what to do?
 
if your chickens are free ranging--

digging and dirt bath are common and they will get dirty -- white hens are dirtiest



honestly i would just leave them be since they will get dirty again anyway



but if you still want to give them a bath..

for the face you can use a wet wash cloth

Ok. And no my chickens are not free ranging. But I do see them take baths in there coops. But for some reason it's just not coming off of them. It's like mud stuck to them. But not all of them have it.

I think I'm just gonna leave them be if no one thinks its an issue
 
They will dig in the dirt, peck at it and even eat it.
If it's been wet out they get much dirtier, on the face and all over.
I'd just keep an eye on it...you might try wiping with a damp cloth to see if it comes off.
If it is dirt most should come off easily, tho there might be staining...if it doesn't come off it might be something else, like dry fowl pox.
 
Looks like blood, pecking and dirt.
Try to clean up the face and wattles as others have suggested in your other threads.
You can apply some triple antibiotic ointment or vetericyn.

You will need to evaluate your housing/run situation and determine if the picking is due to overcrowding. Too little space can cause aggressive pecking, so adding some room will be helpful.
