i've never heard of this but find it interesting and want to try it LOLMy son and I were baking cupcakes earlier and we decided to try the "shake the egg till the aircell dislodges and you hear it pop".
I was amazed it took so much to dislodge the Aircell. We ended up doing it on 3 store bought eggs.
I am curious if anyone has tried comparing store bought egg to your own eggs. Assuming aircell size was similar I wonder if the home raised eggs would be able to withstand more jarring.
Not sure if healthier hens eggs that can withstand more jarring than store bought or not.
Just thinking out loud...
great idea!im not gonna cull it just because it doesnt look right. i can keep it for my mix flock
WOOHOO!!! make sure you join the HAL if you havent already!I have 20 eggs in my encubator due to hatch in about 8 days.![]()
I would learn. I hatched my hocks by just research. Unfortunelty, I would only keep them until they were strong enough to go to my sisters. One day...
I am an at home mom with older kids that don't need much these days. I'm up for the challenge for sure.
LOL, love this image
let them settle upright in your preheated incubator, just dont move them for 24 hours or so, but they can start to heat upI'l slightly frustrated! I bought some serama eggs from a breeder that I've been working with all summer (5+ dozen to be exact). they are less than 4 hours away. Package left Monday and now they are still showing a delay on shipping and I wont get them until Monday. I am concerned about viability of the eggs-not knowing what has gone on with them this entire week, I can probably almost guarantee detached air sack and will need to let them settle for another 24 hours. So this will put them a t 10+ days old. I contacted the seller-they are nice people-not scams. Any suggestions????

My kids and I did a comparison project for our homeschool lesson when our chicks finally started laying. We noticed that our eggs had substantially stronger shells and membranes. We also noticed that our yolks are much darker (probably the difference in diet?) I never even thought about testing air cells! We'll try that today and let you know how it goes!
SEBBIES!!!!I just got off the phone with the post office-said delivery date would be today but she confirmed it would be Monday. Such nice people there-Crystal said if it was so far she would drive and pick them up for me!!! What is meant to be is meant to be... To be honest, I would rather hatch one champion bird that 15 "pet" quality birds. So maybe that is God's plan! I also found a Sebastopol breeder here in Michigan and looks like I might be getting a pair of geese!!! She is going to Ohio Nationals too so made another friendLife is too short to worry about eggs!!!!![]()
sounds like it would be worth it to meoh and I found some powdered french vanilla creamer-enough for 2 cups!! And it is my nephews 6th bday party today and my brother is going to let me come to his party!!!!! (Family Drama-haven't been invited to a party in 4 years)..... I so want to bring him a couple chickens!!! but then I would be in time out another 4 years...![]()
PICK ME, PICK ME!!!let me get my pair and we can work out an egg deal!!!She doesn't ship but is only 2 hours away and my friend Jenn will gladly drive me for these!!!![]()
Good news on the duck waterI love your long hair. I wish my hair was straight like that. Mine's a curly, floppy mess.
Do you know that I just stuck 2 dozen eggs in my incubator. The lady I got my silkie eggs from, I emailed her to let her know that the partridge had 4 toes and no black feet, so she can evaluate her breeding pens (if she even cares to fix it.)
The other 4 are perfect, 5 toes, nicely spaced, black feet, etc. The only one that I'm not sure about out of those, are the black one with his needle like feathers on his back. I'm supposed to take a picture of them for you guys later, but he was sleeping when I went in there, and I don't wake up sleeping babies.
Also - the water duck jugs, worked well, they weren't swimming in muck this morning in the brooder. The last few mornings, I'd go in there and every shaving would be so wet, that I'd clean it out and still have like a cup of water in the brooder to mop up.
Oh, it wasn't dry, it just wasn't a swamp. They still managed to splash water out of the jug, just not make it a goopy mess like the chicken watererererererer.... that's a new word.Glad the brooder is dry!
lol, the hole might be too bigOh, it wasn't dry, it just wasn't a swamp. They still managed to splash water out of the jug, just not make it a goopy mess like the chicken watererererererer.... that's a new word.
I have a contact at the major vet university that studies these if you want her information.
it is - but I have different size ducks in there, and had to accomodate both sizes.lol, the hole might be too big

Chichalette, as well as the b&w one in the back, look like they were on the receiving end of a shotgun blast @ 20 yards![]()
Send me a PM Monday if I haven't remembered. I am very busy this weekend and will have to have time to search my old emails.I would like that. Thanks!
