I just got a bunch of bantams which could not be vaccinated at the hatchery. Should I try to get them vaccinated? How and when do I do that?

JR at Jeffers didn't think it is necessary to vaccinate in my case of a small flock with no other chickens at risk. He said the virus is spread through the egg and then chicken to chicken soI'm at little risk. (Famous last words.) Anybody else with any experience with this?

It does not spread through the egg! It is spread through feces and dander, so it will blow in the wind.

Call your local Ag extension or your State's avian health lab to find out if it is prevelant in your area, then make a decision.

So, is it OK to vaccinate bantams?
Marek's is getting bad here in the Norhwest and it's not worth the risk to go unvaccinated.
I would love some silkie bantams, but the vaccination is an issue.

Thanks for the link. However, it didn't mention anything about the safety of vaccinating bantams....
Does anyone know if it is safe to do this?
