do quail go broody?

I have pretty good flock of buttons that all live together and out of the 5-6 hens I have 3 that go broody ALOT !!

so far they have never hatched anything - they try though - this last time I left 3 eggs in the nest and the 3 girls all took turns setting the eggs ( with help from 2 of the males )

out of the 3 eggs 2 stopped at a very early age and the third egg the baby pipped the air cell than died

since no one is buying eggs right now I am letting them set another clutch of eggs I think they have 4 so far in there - I will let my hens keep going broody I figure at some point one of them is bound to hatch a baby LOL

Yes, it seems there are more and more people reporting broody buttons, I had 2 girls just recently that went broody for the first time. One of them stayed on the nest the whole time, but since they are all together she had had a lot of eggs 'donated' to her. There were 22 eggs in there when I took them all away! 2 days later I had a baby hatch, then 2 more days later I had 5 more hatch. Now today, another 2 days later (I think) I have had another baby hatch. If she had been by herself I feel she would have hatched them very well by herself. Two of the males had also helped set the nest when that hen was off.

Anyway, there was someone on here a few weeks ago that posted pics of her mama A&M hen, but I haven't heard of any other coturnix going broody. But it could be partly because we always collect the eggs. I wonder if the eggs were left in the nest for a few days, if that would make them go broody?? Probably not.

I have found a lot of buttons "play" broody then iust give up days before the hatch silly things.
Letting them hatch babies in a community cage is very dangerous for the mom and the babies will very likely be killed by the others and mom too trying to protect her babies.
I do have to say there is nothing cuter then a button family

I dont plan on letting any babies that hatch stay in the group - I already have a brooder set up so IF they manage to hatch some babies I will pull them for now - until I get some smaller groups of buttons going than I will let moms rasie thier own babies

You could always put mom in the brooder with the babies then you would not need to use a heat lamp and mom can raise her babies. It would be a win win

would removing mom from her flock upset her ?

I dont want to stress her out

and I have 3 hens who are all taking turns with these eggs so how would I pick the right mom ?

one who will raise them and not hurt them ?

would I need to put a male in with her and the babies in the brooder ?
