I have four mottled java girls and just took a quick picture of them grazing in the "scratch patch" that I leave long for them to have fun in. I don't see the breed discussed much here, and never see any pictures. Does anyone here seriously breed show type javas? I would love to see photos if you had some. Here are the pullets. The picture below is of the parent hens, well, some of them at least. They were FAST and hard to get a picture of!

The first pic is a few months ago.

Beautiful! How do you find their temperament. I was all set to get Java's once and could not find any except at the hatchery. Now I don't have room but still am interested in the breed.

They are nice birds. They are not super affectionate and curious, but they are calm to be around, easy to direct if you want them to go one way or the other. They are really funny though about sticking together. They go in a tight foursome everywhere. They roost like peas in a pod, graze together, do everything like a tight unit. I really like these girls. I have three cockerels maybe six weeks younger than the girls coming along. I will maybe keep two. Gotta always keep a spare you know... Thanks for the comments. I wasn't fishing for compiments, just wanting to see other peoples' javas to see how they looked. The lady I got mine from shows her birds and won something with one of the mama birds. I found that mine developed quickly and got fluffy britches and wider backs sooner than I expected. Either that or I was just really busy at the time and time flew and I had lost track.

Beautiful birds !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
pinegrove also has them, He is in Lakeland, Ga. I plan to get chicks or eggs from him this winter or spring when he starts hatching again.

Oh' how pretty!

I have an interesting story about the Java that I have. They were hatched easter morning 09'.

I hatched them thinking I got Black Java eggs.

When they first hatched they looked mottled as new chicks. The 2 on the left in the picture. (The other 2 are white crested black polish.)

As they got a bit older I still thought them to be mottled

Now they are all black, but have the orange eyes I am told the mottled have, black are supposed to have very dark almost black eyes according to the standard.

Stewie the rooster, the white on his back is dust from tossing grain to them.

They do have the black legs and yellow on the bottom of their feet & their skin in yellow.
