I really just want to give up on selling anything anymore. I stopped selling hatching eggs because I can't control the post office....I can only control fertility and egg handling here at my house and some people do not understand the risk of buying shipped eggs.

I bought 8 eggs from hattrick silkies on a eggbid.com auction for $157 and didn't get a single one to hatch....I wouldn't even dream of contacting them to demand a refund. That was my chance to get quality chickens at a fraction of the cost...but it does come with risk.

we started selling chicks because I can guarantee the number of chicks a person gets but even then I get complaints that they were not all blue (they come in blue, splash, and black), I got a single comb chick....etc. I might just start selling everything local at swap meets and stop shipping anything.

Ok, rant over....sorry about that.
Wheeeww I feel better.

anyone else need to blow some steam?

Sorry for your frustration...but every business has its customer service issues.

Don't stop doing something you love, or make money at, because other people are poos. If you are the non-confrontational type, write up a good "legal notice" that states your proceedures, concerns, refund policies and have all customers sign. For online purchases include a line like, "customer agrees to all polices outlined above"

Then when they complain, refer them to your contract.

BUT you probably didn't want advice, just to vent, so....

Down with stinky people!

thanks......
you know, the thing is we don't make money off this. We do it because we really do enjoy improving our birds and breeding them to the standard. We spend $400 plus a month on feed and we travel to poultry shows spring and fall..not to mention the hours we spend everyday to care for everone...if anything we are definitely in the hole each month on our farm account and have to supplement with our "real job" income.

heres to doing what you love even when you get bad buyers...lol

Make sure you put lots of disclaimers in your web site or ad for eggs.

There are lots of poopie people out there that want something for nothing!

I had a lady accuse me of not shipping her eggs, complain and leave me negative feedback on eggbid because she didn't check her tracking number or call her post office about her eggs.

What a maroon......

Here is one of my ads, notice all the disclaimers:

Pips & Peeps is offering 9 fertile hatching eggs from our newest grouping of a lavender ameraucana cock over black hens for a starting bid of $12.00. The birds hatched from these eggs will all be carrying the lavender gene and can be bred back together to produce 25% black, 25% lavender and 50% split carrying lavender gene offspring. The lavender color is very new to the ameraucana breed and is not yet a standard accepted color by the APA. Most of the lavenders on the market at this time are of small body size as they were bred up from bantams so it is likely that the offspring will also be on the small side. The egg color in this pen are blue, minty green and teal. Proud member of the Ameraucana Breeders Club. Washington NPIP #91-99, which means yearly tests indicate no pullorum/typhoid and no salmonella infections in my flock. Eggs will be collected and shipped after the auction closes and after payment has been received as we want you to have the freshest eggs possible to increase hatchability. There is no guarantee on hatching eggs and shipping them can be very damaging. We do, however try to send additional eggs (up to 3) to make up for any loss that may be incurred. Shipping is a flat $10.00 to pay for the actual postage and the necessary supplies to wrap these babies up safely and get them to their destination in one piece. If you live in the Pacific Northwest e-mail me and I may have lower shipping rates for you. If you have any questions, please ask before you bid. No bidders from Hawaii, Utah, Virginia or outside the continental US please. Please make sure your correct e-mail address is on your eggbid account information page so you can receive your invoice. All auctions that do not state they are a presale will be shipped the following Monday/Tuesday unless some unforeseen circumstance happens or the hens stop laying. At that time I will offer a refund or you can wait until the eggs are available. This is a Paypal only auction, no e-checks. Shipping to verified addresses only.

This is a hijack...

Jean...love your disclaimer! Can I borrow some of it?

And, I am in Virginia...how come I cant buy your eggs?

Thanks!

I guess I though that this disclaimer would take care of the hatching eggs.

Due to shipping and individual incubating techniques no guarantees will be given. I do promise to send fresh, fertile eggs. Our fertility is checked on a weekly basis

Hey pips&peeps, you culling your sebs yet? I want to because they are eating machines but I guess I need to wait a few more months.

I don't know about chicks, but I have received several egg shipments this spring and summer without any permits or what have you, with no problems whatsoever.

So maybe it's just live birds?
