Cocci Treatment???

I have a 4 week old chick with bloody poo. I checked posts and they said to give sulmet. So i went to the feed store and the only sulmet they had was expensive and came in big boluses for cows, so i got what looked to me a similar drug.... neomycin, which is neomycin sulfate, in liquid form. Well, when i got home and actually read the bottle in a less frantic state, i see tht it is for colibacillosis, not coccibaciossis or whatever. Will this work or do i need to get something different???? Help!!!

The chickies seem happy and fine, but i don't want to lose her!!

Also, any ideas on dosage amounts?
 
You really need Corid (for cattle, it's a liquid usually) or Sulmet. Corid is just concentrated treatment-strength Amprolium. Till you can get it, give the chicks some yogurt or sprinkle the powdered nonfat milk into their crumbles to help with their gut, as well as add unfiltered apple cider vinegar to their water, a Tablespoon to a gallon for babies. Then the Corid or Sulmet is added to the water and you remove the ACV.
Colibacillosis is not the same as coccidiosis, so I dont think Neomycin will do anything. Cocci is a protozoan, not a bacteria.
 
I've been giving them ACV, i checked with another feed store, and they have corid.... for 92 $! Jeez. I put a call in to the vet, but im wondering, if i have to go with the sulmet boluses, how will i know how much to give?
 
I buy Sulmet in 8 or 16 oz bottles, which is how it's sold here most places. On that bottle it has directions for giving it. Corid is preferred, though, because Sulmet is a sulpha drug and harder on the gut. My Corid comes in a 16 oz bottle for $20.Either way, they must be treated, so find what you can. Sometimes, they'll open a large bottle and sell you smaller amounts.

Though there are other causes for blood in the feces, at that age, Cocci is the most likely culprit.

Question? Can you use Albon for treatment? I keep it on hand for treating cats and dogs that hit the rescue with coccidia. I also have the non sulfur type, though I can't remember the name off the top of my head, for my dane who is allergic to sulfa drugs if she were to have a problem which she does on occasion since it's EVERYWHERE out here....
