Hello, everyone!

I've just recently registered here because we've had something interesting happen with one of our laying hens and I was hoping to find some information about it. It's not anything bad or urgent, simply interesting and curious.

We've had chickens for years, and I've seen a lot.....but this is a new one on me. Currently we have a mixed flock of Americaunas, Light Brahmas, White Rocks, and Buttercups. We have two roosters, a two year old Americauna and an six month old Japanese Phoenix.

Recently, one of either the White Rocks or the Brahmas (because it is a brown egg) has twice, now, laid an egg that was double SHELLED. By this, I mean that there was a shell, with a yolk in it, and inside that, another complete, normal shell (though slimey with the outside shell's yolk) with a yolk in it. Now, I've heard and seen double and even triple YOLKS inside a single shell, but has anyone ever experienced an egg.....inside of an egg??

There was a post on here a little while back with a double shelled egg. The had pictures and a video of it. You can do a search or I'll try to find it after I feed my kids dinner. It sure isn't something that happens very often though.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I did a search for "double shelled," and it turned up, like two hundred and something threads. Most of them had nothing to do with double shelled eggs......

So if you could look up the thread you remember some time when you get a chance, it would be very appreciated.

That is wild!! Did you see the video on You Tube that explains how it happens? Not sure how to add a link but go to You Tube and search "Double Egg Dillema"

Someone here on BYC cracked a huge egg once that had TWO tiny eggs inside of it! Not 1 inside the next inside the next, but two tiny eggs inside the one wombo! There are pics on here, too...somewhere!

I just went out to gather eggs and found a double shelled egg. The outer shell was cracked so I could see inside the egg. I mean it was a shell against a shell . The outer shell was a darker brown than the inside shell. This has not happened before.
