Feed recipe for Meatie's?

For you folks that have your feed custom blended for meaties, does anyone want to share some wisdom in recipes they have developed for higher protein feeds? Also any do's or do not's like not too much of something- for example I have read that fish meal is a good protein booster but too much can promote ascites etc...

Here is what my feed mill makes for me. It is 23% protein. I think my next batch I am going to drop it down to 21% to see if I get the same results with slightly less protein. As you can see, the Bean meal is the most expensive component. Dropping it should result in a little cheaper feed. I really can't complain as I know many people pay more than $.15/ pound for their feed. I can raise broilers for around $.83/pound usinig this feed.

I don't know where you are in Middle Tn but Edwards in Lebanon custom blends chicken feed for me. The feed was formulated by Fertrell (poultry nutritionist). I use it to grow broilers for market and I like it alot. Tim Edwards, Edwards feed is the one to talk to.

And FB238, I am close to Lebanon. Do you happen to know what Edwards puts into it? I am currently getting some custom blends from a Mennonite feed mill just to make sure I know the source of the ingredients as I prefer non GMO products if available.

He uses Fertrell products from Countryside Products in Virginia. His Corn and Soy is , I believe, a commodity buy from I think Illinois. Out here even the locally grown products are questionable. When you start talking about GMO clean Corn/Wheat/Soybeans people look at you like you have 3 heads! Right now we are at that "crawl before you walk" stage in Middle Tennessee on the clean food movement but we're going to keep taking those baby steps until we get there!
