How do you ship eggs safely?

How do you ship eggs safely? I have never bought them (as I don't have an incubator yet) but I'd like to sell some of my chickens' and ducks' eggs at some point this Spring. I need to figure out how I'd ship them first.

I take a square of bubble wrap and wrap each one up individually. Tape it up really well with packing tape, and then place, as best as you can, the wrapped up eggs in an egg carton. I've cut the top off the egg carton then just placed it on top and taped that whole thing together. Then, stuff the box as best as you can with bubble wrap, newspaper, anything you can get your hands on.
Hopefully someone has pics to show you because I don't!
Also, another trick I've learned is to NOT write "eggs" on the box. Instead, just write "Fragile-glass".

Here's how I wrap eggs for shipping

BubbleWrap comes off the roll in 12"x12" pieces. Cut in half for 2 6"x12" pieces.

Fold over the ends to make a pocket and tape it.

Place the egg in the pocket.

Fold the sides (like you're wrapping a burrito).

Tape it closed.

Line the box with big bubble (5/16") BubbleWrap.

and place the eggs inside.

Fold over the sides of the big bubble Bubble-wrap and tape it closed.

Fill in corners and gaps with whatever 'filler' you have handy (this 'filler' is pages from an old phone book (and Grace, those are your Frizz eggs)).

Cover with another piece of Bubble wrap (not always necessary).

Tape it closed, label it and say "bye bye eggs, travel safely"

The eggs seem to travel and hatch really well when packaged this way.

I personally do not like it when I buy eggs and they are stacked one on top of the other in the box. This just creates pressure on the bottom eggs and if the box is dropped they will crack as the bottom eggs have all the weight on them. No amount of bubble wrap is going to prevent it.

I prefer to have them in a carton or foam padding.

The only time I have had problems with shipping my eggs was in California. One of my boxes was squished so bad there was no possible way to prevent breakage.

I have never had any egg break that was individually bubble wrapped.

I have had several sets of eggs that were sent in cartons that were either comletely destroyed or had hairline cracks all over the place.

When I start shipping eggs, I will certainly go with the individually bubble wrapped option. I have just had better personal (as in people sending to me) results with it.
 
I do very much the same,wrap the egg individually in bubble wrap. I cut the top off of an egg carton and put the eggs in it,pointed side down. I tape the top back on the carton and wrap the entire carton in bubble wrap. I place an 18 count egg carton in the bottom of the box, put the carton on top of it,pack it tight with newspaper or other packing materials to the top,put another 18 count carton on top and tape it down. I don't put "eggs" on the carton, I put "fragile" and "perishible" on the box.

I have all of my chickens together right now-but they are EEs, Black Australorps, Black Stars, Red Stars, Buff Minorcas, SSHs, Turkens, Blue Andalusian, Sumatras, Sultans, Brown Leghorns, WHite Faced Black Spanish, and maybe a few others. The Top Roo is a big Blue Andalusian, and the 2nd Roo is a big fat EE. #rd in line is a Red/Brown Turken. Not sure if the Sultan boys get to mate or not. So these eggs would be a mixture of breeds.
Also, my ducks are not laying right now, but they will again. I have Blue Swedish, Cayuga, and Mandarins.
If anyone is interested ever, I'll try shipping some. Just let me know. Like I said though, the ducks are waiting for warmer weather, I think.

If you are going to ship in egg cartens you really need to use the TRI-FOLD egg cartons.
That is what I use now. I used to use the normal egg cartons and was lucky I think only 2 people reported
cracked eggs.. NOW for the last 2 years I use the trifold cartons, and I love them.
I few times I have run out and I have wraped each egg in a tissue then in bubble wrap like Dipsy :-)
