Looked at the breed list and it wasn't there!!!!!!! I thought we needed this thread in order to promote and protect this beautiful crested breed that deserves to be noticed. I never realized how rare they are! I went to the Eastern States National and there wasn't ONE there!!!! Share your pictures, tell about your Crevies, and just discuss the breed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Colors!!!
Black, although Blue and white in other countries

The other colors were "created" during the Victorian poultry craze of the late 1800s, by crossing with Polish. This was during the same time period when the Crèvecoeur (the normal black version) was a major eating fowl in France ... and was considerably larger than it is today. The color variants were never really widespread. There are also some closely related breeds (Merlerault, Caumont, Pavilly) all black, from other parts of Normandy, which share some of its features (the Merlerault is similar to a Crèvecoeur without a beard). As far as I know none of them were ever imported into the US. (Thank you exop for that last blurb

I have one pullet, her name is Giant (an ironic name cause she was tiny as a chick).
When I bought her when she was proubly 4 weeks old, she was small and weak and neaded special care, now she's happy and healthy and loves to hang out with my cochin.
Her at about 9 weeks:

Her at about 11 weeks:

Now she's about 16 weeks old but I don't have any pics as of yet.

VERY beautiful!!!! Mine is a bit skittish, and doesn't like to be held, although she does love raspberries!
Southerngirl- should I put you on the list as a soon breeder?
P.S., How does my girl look for showing?

She is beautiful! I have both bearded and non bearded Crevs. I really am looking to breed them but not sure if I should be listed as a "commercial" breeder but whatever you want to list is fine. I hope to increase their numbers though!!! Thanks for posting.

I too love them. I have several breeding groups of them myself, but went a step further into the rare cataglory and only keep them in bantam size. To my knowledge only 2 other breeders have these in bantam in the states.
They are pretty small, 8-10 inches tall or so on the hens , maybe 10- 12 on the roos, good bit smaller and lighter than polish bantams.
These are some of the gentlest and tamest bantams I have ever had too, they are the only ones I have ever kept (out of litterally thousands) that the roos have never once "tried me"
actually come feeding time, you have to push them off your feet just to walk in their pens, and any of them will let you pick them up and handle them with no problem. To me this makes for the perfect bantam.
Here's a few pics of them for you all

Wow, BBB, those are BEAUTIFUL! Wish my girl was tame......we got her as an adult at an auction as a polish.
PS I listed you as a breeder, that OK?

Oh, I fixed it..... I PM'ed Rare Feather's Farm to join this thread....... Once there's a second page, maybe I'll try getting this thread into the "Notable Breed Thread Reference" thing.
