The tiny red patches coming out make me think cockerel

Red pointed feathers are beginning to develop on Mervin's wing, signaling a cockerel.

I’ve had several Easter Egger cockerels not show themselves until 13-14 weeks. But in this case, the 8 week old black one with the red shoulder patches is definitely a cockerel.

You're right, it definitely depends on how much hormones they have at the time, and if there are other, more dominant males present.

I know this thread is old but wondering if anyone might be able to tell if this one’s a pullet or roo, I know a lot of males can be black and white, this one doesn’t have any red or other colors I can see. So far just black and white and pale comb about 6 weeks old. She does have some green coming in on her tail feathers though I’m not sure if that matters or not?

I think it is still a little early to tell, but yes that comb is pale and looks like a pullet so far

Your chicken looks like a pullet because of her pale comb and thin legs.

The sunlight's reflection has nothing to do with determining gender. It is true that males tend to have shinier feathers but that is because they have certain colors that shine more. If a female had those, she would shine a lot just like a male. So, no, a green sheen does not mean anything. There was an old thread here on BackYard Chickens asking if only males had shiny feathers and someone sent a ton of pictures of their females, whose feathers were beautiful with all different colors of vibrant sheen.

Where did you get her? She’s beautiful! I hope she’s a puller because I have one feathering in with similar feather colors and pattern.

I got her from a breeder who lives in my town! I love her coloring
