chick pipped at the wrong end... what do i do?

have a egg in the bator and it has pipped on the wrong end, the pointy end. the air cell is obviously on the other end. should i help? what should i do? its day 19..

I had this happen to two my last hatch.
One I missed it the other I helped and it did fine but it took hours to get out.
The problem right now is its not ready to hatch yet.
It still needs to take in its yolk to prepare for unzipping.
To give it the best chance possible you can try to make sure it has a breathable pip hole.
You'll need a pair of tweezers and just very carefully and slowly remove a tiny bit of shell around the pip it has made to make sure it has access to air.
You have to be very careful because there will be active blood vessels at this stage.
Just a tiny bit of shell lifted near where it has pipped and put it back in to rest.
The hard part is when it starts to unzip.
Sometimes it goes really fast and they are fine.
Others are slow and they cover up the airhole and suffocate.
Sometimes you can help slowly remove outer pieces of the shell around the pip area but you have to move very slowly and make sure there is no active blood vessels.
The easiest way to see this is using a q-tip with warm sterile water.
Empty blood vessels will appear yellow, active will appear red.

First thing I should have asked is do you see it breathing or moving?
If yes then you have a good chance of saving it, will just take time.
Just do everything very slowly and put it back in to rest and warm up often.
When you put it back in make sure you lay it on its side with the hole up, this will prevent any liquid that may be present from drowning the chick.
May take up to another full day to fully hatch so try not to rush things too much.

thanks, i do see it moving and breathing, i did make the pip hole a lot bigger, then put it back in. i have helped before, but its not my favorite thing to do, i stress to much. ill probaly start helping it zip in the morning, to give it time to absorb the yolk. hoping that it makes it! never had one pip the wrong end before lol

I had one pip at the wrong end and it took about a day but it finally zipped and popped out! Talk about thankful when I finally saw that little thing zipping. Maybe give it some time before you do anything, I just made sure that little beak was still breathing.

I did have to help one that zipped half way and quit. I wish I hadn't waited so long (over 24 hrs) to help because that one was stuck. I followed the directions from the link posted and like advised, you have to follow your instincts on when and how much to intervene.

Edited to add, I'm a sissy! As soon as mine were done and in the brooder, I cleaned the bator up and sold it on Craigslist! Too much stress!

i havent had this happen but my fiends have....what ever you do try not to help it because you can riskvits life doing it if u absolutly have to help it do soe really good research to find thebest way to help it good luck

I just saw your signature. Standard Silkies??? How big are they? Are these your own eggs?

I had one do the same thing, gave it over 12 hours, then helped it out. It is now 3 days old and doing fine. Good luck!

I had one do that and I took an egg carton and cut the bottom1/4 in of a cup off. I set the egg in the tiny cup just enough to keep the pip up a tiny bit higher than the other end so any fluids wouldn't run into that end. The chick did fine
